Surgery cancelled

So today should have been my op and I was more than ready for cancellation, not a big deal to be honest. What got me was the reason, we all expect lack of ICU bed, lack of doctors, emergency admission, strikes etc. What surprised me was after pre-op appt tests, scans, video of what to expect I get told they want to optimise my pills, really thought someone would have looked at that before but hey ho. Anyone else had this?

Of course the delay means that my angiogram and TOE will be over 1yr old by the time of reschedule so they need to repeat them, again not a big deal but i'm finding it irritating that after 3yrs without a holiday (for many reasons) I still can't book somewhere. Anyhow not a whinge as they have been excellent and angio is already set for next week.

Fingers crossed, for a swift re-book!

Had mine cancelled three times, due to other priorities. Which I found odd as they had me in hospital wired up taking up a bed until they could operate

yes, it happens! It’s such a waste of scarce resources, too.

That's really bad being told last minute. It's like communication between departments and even in hospital wards is ran badly. Not all ofcourse but quite a lot I've seen. Management is bad. It's good that angiogram rebooked quickly though. All the best for next week 🤞

I'm know someone waiting for joint replacement surgery.

Reasons for delay:

Initially blood pressure to high and need to get it under control

Next blood tests showed something (iron or something similar)that that concerned the anesthesiologist so needed pills to correct.

Subsequent blood test told sodium levels to low and increase salt intake.

Now other tests/assessments out of date and need to be repeated.

Why they didn't check all bloods at same time he doesn't understand

Whilst it is annoying i'd still rather be in optimum condition before they put me out.
