pulse/heart rate

Can anyone advise on my concern, I have an ILR fitted so I know my heart problems are monitored but I suffer with high blood pressure which I take medication for I take my blood pressure every few days, most of my readings are fine for my blood pressure but I do have a low pulse rate, my pulse rate can be as low as 40 I always thought that your pulse rate and heart rate were similar, I have mentioned to my doctor how low my pulse rate is and they do not seem concerned, but my concern is if the heart rate and pulse are similar isn’t in the 40’s to low for a heart rate.

I expect you are in beta-blockers? Any medication ending “olol”. This reduces your pulse rate so that your heart is under less pressure.

So that would be on the low side of normal, for someone on beta-blockers.

You can discuss your medication with a pharmacist (you may have one attached to your docs surgery) who can reassure you.

I support what Happyrosie says

you can alsofind out more about your medication here:

bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo... - there is lots of info, including short videos on how medication works, side effects and more

but you could also ask your doctor and pharmacist:

what would be considered a low pulse rate

under what conditions you should not take medication

when should you seek medical advice or help
