I'm going on a cruise and my other half wants to get the drinks package. But I suffer from microvascular angina and had a stent fitted 4 years ago. I'm on heart meds/statins. My question is should I be drinking for 14 days .
I do drink but about once a week . To break even I would have to have at least 5 alcoholic drinks a day. My husband is also on blood pressure pills.
Advice would be Welcome

I must admit that I would approach this question the other way. How much do you and your wife want to drink? Then decide if the package is worth it, if it is cheaper to pay as you go, do that. For me it would seem illogical to drink a certain amount just to “get my money’s worth”. If your wife feels she wants the freedom of the package, even if it is not economical, then by all means do it, but still only drink what you want?
I think only you and your husband can answer that question. A few ideas....How important is it to you to restrict your alcohol consumption? Is your husband a regular drinker and does he want to up his alcohol consumption whilst on the cruise, if so why? You don't sound to be a regular drinker, do you want to be increasing your consumption several fold whilst away, if so why? You can still buy drinks, and certainly even for me as a regular drinker, more than five drinks a day for 14 days seems a lot, certainly my wife would not cope with all that and she has no health issues to speak of. If your husband wants to drink and you don't then why not pay for the drinks it will still work out cheaper. Is drinking alcohol important for a happy holiday? Hope you can both agree without it becoming a big issue.
Thank you I like a good drink now and again but Ifi do it takes me a few days to get over it. But this package covers cokes coffee /tea/Water. My husband does like a drink when out or on holiday never drinks at home.
So since it includes non alcoholic drinks the bottom line for me would be that the drinks cost is a relatively small component of the total cost of the holiday so if I didn't drink my quota and I had bought it it would be no big deal, but only you know how many drinks you are going to want whilst away. But whether you buy it or not it, since it covers all drinks, it should not influence your individual choice on how much alcohol to drink whilst away on holiday, balancing your health needs against enjoyment.
My husband and I went on a cruise in November & had the drinks package. We were allowed 15 drinks each per day, which included tea, coffee, soft drinks & water which were ordered from the cafes/bars/restaurants. I do like a couple alcoholic drinks a day, maybe a little more on holiday. My husband probably reached his limit most days with the non alcoholic beverages included.
You need to work out how many approximately you both together would consume. We had a medallion which was tapped for them to keep tabs on how much we consumed. Obviously I could use mine for his drinks if he wanted more, so he didn’t go over his limit, long as we didn’t go over the 30 allowed 😅.
The ship normally arrives at a new port very early in the morning, and if you're up bright and early you'll often see one of the saddest sights of cruising.
Parked by the dock will be an ambulance with its blue light flashing. And the first people down the gangplank will be a trolley or a wheelchair carrying a patient. Accompanying them is usually an anxious partner. They all get bundled into the ambulance and off they go. It's the end of their holiday, but only the start of their overseas illness trauma.
I guess you can tell where I stand on the drinks package debate! The problem is all that free food and booze is a temptation beyond endurance for some people; "everything in moderation" it is not!
But, it is of course your choice, and whatever your decision I hope you have a great holiday!
When we go on cruises we get the Drinks package only so I can have non alcoholic cocktails and drinks plus soft drinks Look into the packages and see which is best for you both. Plus if you meet people you want to buy a drink for then at least you have the golden card package. Hope this helps.
We have this conversation every year in our house, we go on 2 cruises a year. We always take the drink package and enjoy ourselves trying different things. Drinks are expensive so your breakeven point is easy to achieve. I had stents in 2018, but I am not on meds. so maybe check with the pharmacy, but I think if you pace yourself you will be fine. We are heading out for a 17 day cruise next Wednesday and am looking forward to full indulgence.
Hi Thank you for replying we have decided to get the deluxe package. As my husband says I can get through a bottle of wine no problem if I want. Enjoy your cruise we are doin g the med cruise in April
