Update re surgery.

Hi everyone, I hope you all had a nice festive season. My surgeon phoned yesterday to confirm the date and place, it will be in my local general hospital on the 5th of February, she said my cardiac team are happy for her to operate locally and she is also going to repair my femoral hernia, two for the price of one! unusual for the NHS 🤣 she assured me that the extra couple of weeks I have to wait won't make it any worse and there are a few things they need to put in place first as my op will take longer so she doesn't want to squeeze me in. I have a pre op appointment on the 17th and I will be meeting the anaesthetist, not really sure what else they will do.I will be in hospital a bit longer in case of infection. My routine heart MRI appointment is on the 6th typical 🙄 I am going to phone the jubilee tomorrow and see if they can change it as I don't want to miss it. I am glad I now know what's happening and where it will be. Scary times ahead. Char x

Everything is starting to fall into place and you'll be taken really good care of. I'm not going to say don't worry because I don't know anyone who wouldn't just know many people will be thinking of you, saying a prayer for you, and are always here to support you in any way we can.

Thank you for your kind words, it is a thought when I had my hysterectomy a few years ago I found everything more difficult with a stomach wound and internal stitches than my OHS I am hoping it won't be as bad but not holding my breath. Char x

Hi Char,

Well dates in place and things are moving, I know that you’re going to be fine, they have caught it early. You have a great medical team with you. It’s very easy for me to say those words but you’re the one having to face more medical drama. Remember what you have been through your one strong lady and you have so many more places in the sun to visit.

You are in my thoughts, let us know what is going on when you can.

Love and hugs Pauline x

Ah bless you, and lots of good luck and well wishes. I'm sure you'll be taken good care of and think how amazing it'll be when it's behind you! I'm waiting for my surgery. There are no updates from the hospital re how the waiting list is progressing. Were you updated, as you waited? Best wishes!

Thanksnhs profile image
Thanksnhs in reply toWoodlandLover

Thank you, I had no updates after I seen the surgeon a few weeks ago, she just phoned me the day and told me the date and which hospital it will be, yesterday her secretary phoned and told me that the 17th of Jan I have to go and meet with the anaesthetist, I am not sure if they will do other tests while I am there.I really hope you hear soon as waiting is horrible. be aware they like to use MESH in femoral hernias!! I had emergency one 12/2021, I had to insist they did NOT use mesh but stitched it. Read about mesh, yes apparently vaginal mesh but mesh is the same mesh.

Thanksnhs profile image
Thanksnhs in reply toLaceyLady

Hi the first surgeon I spoke to wanted to use mesh and said I was just to phone him and he would get it done, it was over a year ago and I didn't phone mainly because of the mesh. When I mentioned my hernia to the surgeon that's doing the bowel surgery she said she would put a few stitches in it. I will check with her again when I see her before surgery to make sure how she is going to repair it. Char

Mine was huge, I’d had a femoral hernia many years ago on the same side, femoral is lower than it. I was an emergency as power had come through the muscle. Even though it was an emergency it took them 2 days to do it! I was all starved and gowned, then no one came, not even to explain what was going on and I’d had nothing to eat for days and I’m a T2 dire betic controlled by diet! I will NOT have mesh, told them they had to use old fashioned sewing .

Thanksnhs profile image
Thanksnhs in reply toLaceyLady

That sounds horrendous, mine is quite small but really should be dealt with and if they can do it at the same time as the bowel surgery all the better. Char x

my ablation was booked yesterday for 20/24 🤞🏻

If you're having a hernia repair PLEASE don't let them use mesh. It ruins your health. They may try to call it tape or something else but hey really need to use your own tissue. Have a look at the "Sling the Mesh" group on facebook and do some research about the horror stories of people who have had mesh implanted. It's been banned for many procedures but I don't think it's been banned for hernia repair and of course is cheaper and quicker than using your own tissue.

Thanksnhs profile image
Thanksnhs in reply toQualipop

Hi a previous surgeon I seen told me he was using mesh and I didn't go to him for surgery for that reason. The surgeon who is doing my bowel surgery said she would put a few stitches in it. I will check with her when I see her again. Char

Qualipop profile image
Qualipop in reply toThanksnhs

As long as you are aware how nasty mesh is. My life was to tally ruined by it,. Within 3 weeks of it being used to fasten my bladder up to my spinal ligaments I was in agony which has lasted over 30 years; auto immune disorders, chronic pain, adhesions, 20 years of opiates that are destroying my digestive system, bladder and bowel. Wheelchair user and 99% housebound. And despite it being banned, they still use it . A loophole that allows it to be used for hernias.

Thanksnhs profile image
Thanksnhs in reply toQualipop

I am so sorry to hear that you have went through all that when it could have been avoided. I had heard there were a lot of women suffering because of it and they had banned it so I was surprised that the first surgeon wanted to use it, I did question him and of course he said it was fine for a hernia repair. I just didn't have faith in him and that's why I put it. I will definitely check again before my surgery on the 5th . Char

Qualipop profile image
Qualipop in reply toThanksnhs

They also call it tape and other things and try to tell you it's often used and does no harm. That's true for some people but whatever they call it, it's a foreign body.

Thanksnhs profile image
Thanksnhs in reply toQualipop

Thanks for letting me know about this, I will definitely make sure she is stitching it like she said. Char

I have confidence in her although she looked far too young to be a surgeon 🤣so hopefully she will just just stitch it char x
