4 weeks on since my NSTEMI...had Cardiac MRI on Tuesday..waiting for results. Did some baking yesterday..and was tired afterwards..a bit breathless..but today has been worse..breathless after showering and dressing! Resting all afternoon.. thought I might feel a bit better by now..am I an impatient patient?

Hello :-)

The heart is a muscle as you know like any other and takes time to strengthen up

Maybe you are trying to run before you have started walking again ?

Listen to your body keep doing what you are doing but rest and pace yourself

Hopefully these results when you get them will help and in the meantime you know your body best and if you did feel anything was wrong then you could get checked out at A&E

Let us know when you get your results and how you get on :-) x

Hi , are you going to have an angiogram or just MRI?

I had Nstemi in July , thought it was trapped wind 🤦🏼. My wife called 111 , the medics checked me out and my heart was fine on ECG, they insisted on me going in for a troponin test which eventually confirmed my heart attack. I had angiogram next day and that confirmed that I needed at least triple bypass surgery , ended up quadruple. I’m so grateful the medics insisted on me going in with them . I’m the months before I had heart attack I noticed how fatigued I was , I found that I couldn’t do my weights work outs as well as the chores around our small holding , I was falling asleep in the afternoons. It really troubled me , I went to my GP and explained my fatigue , they tested for testosterone, B12 , thyroid, all came back normal . 6 weeks later I had the heart attack. All the medics I spoke too during my transfers and hospital stays said that the tiredness was a huge signal of a cardiac issue . It wasn’t picked up by my GP as I just didn’t present as a cardiac case , fit and healthy looking , no blood pressure issue , heart rate low resting etc.I didn’t have any breathlessness, just a heavy fatigue /tiredness.

I’d be grateful that you are in the system , whatever it is , you now have an opportunity to get it fixed and crack on again. Please keep us updated , plenty of support and experience. Wishing you the best outcome, Wizza

I'm being well looked after by the wonderful NHS Scotland...Echocardiogram normal and Angiogram showed not much..waiting on MRI results. I'm a nurse so not a good patient!!

during my time as a nurse i soon realised that health care professionals seem to have trouble applying what they know to themselves! as a nurse you should have an understanding of how important your heart is in keeping your body supplied with fuel and oxygen, as well has how the heart and lungs work together - so if your heart function is affected (by the after effects of an NSTEMI for example) it is almost bound to have an effect on your overall functioning

give your heart a chance to recover properly, take things gently, do things a bit at a time with breaks - make sure you take time to relax and unwind - you are not superhuman and pushing yourself to recover is unlikley to do you any favours🌺

I would say yes, you are trying to do too much too soon. It took me about 3 months before I felt anywhere near normal although most of my problems were side effects of the tablets. Like any muscle, your heart needs to rest to heal. Trying to vacuum was the worst thing for me and standing to cook.
