HBP and RBBB

Hi,

To introduce myself, I’m 54 and until recently thought I was in good health. Looking for advice, reassurance really.

im active and go to gym twice a week. I found out a month ago that I have high blood pressure. Usually around 130/95. Yesterday I had an ecg and RBBB was found. They are referring me to a cardiologist now. I have no symptoms and do lots of cardio work at the gym. I’ve freaked myself out a bit by googling it. Does anyone have any knowledge of this combination, hypertension and RFFF? I assumed I may have to take medication to sort out the blood pressure but I’ve been reading about pulmonary hypertension being connected to RFFF and that looks like a life changing condition. Any replies would be gratefully received 😊.

Andy.

Hi, I don’t know anything about RBBB but 13/9 is not considered high BP by my GP.

I’ve found that a helpful resource is the website of Blood Pressure UK.

Right bundle branch block is a problem with your right bundle branch that keeps your heart’s electrical signal from moving at the same time as the left bundle branch. Instead of moving together on the left and right sides, the signal on the right side is running behind. This creates an irregular heartbeat. Usually, the problem isn’t serious.

RBBB is rarely serious and seldom requires any intervention or treatment. Generally it does not develop into anything more serious as your cardiologist will most likely confirm.

Sorry you've had such a nasty shock. Have you asked your GP what your target BP is? I found out by accident that they had a target BP for me, they forgot to tell me. It will be different for each individual depending on their age, health, level of fitness, etc, . If you don't already do it I suggest you take your BP morning and evening, a couple of readings each time and note down the average, for about a week, that will give you and your doctors a clearer picture.

I hope you get some peace of mind soon.

Hi there my understanding of pulmonary hypertension, which I have, which is severe due to me having stage 3 heart failure, is it affects the right side of your heart. For me it is dangerous as the left side of my heart is only working 23%

My understanding is the walls of the pulmonary arteries become stiff and thick and cannot expand well to allow blood through so small clots can build up. The reduced blood flow makes it harder for the right side of the heart to pump blood through the arteries. The right side then have to work harder and can gradually become weaker and start failing leading to heart failure.

It is not the same as hypertension, high blood pressure or hypotension low blood pressure. This is high blood pressure from the heart to the lungs. I’m not sure what the other abbreviations you’ve mentioned are.

I hope you’re able to find out what it all means when you visit your cardiologist. Make notes and take it when you go to ask questions, also let us know how you get on. It’s natural to worry/be anxious.

All the best

Thanks for your reply Deejay. I’m sorry to read about your health issues. RBBB is right bunch bundle block. I’ll come back on here when I know more. I’m hoping that the RBBB is a stand alone problem since I have no symptoms and go to the gym regularly and do a lot of cardio work. Take care. Andy.

All the best and please let us know how you get on. It was the RFFF I wasn’t sure about but I assume it’s a typo. 😊

I have complete LBBB so we are a matching pair but seriously my EF is 45 to 50 and I have been put on a small dose of candestatin to help my heart pump . Trying to protect my heart as borderline to cardiomyopathy

I was depressed but didn’t know it when told so now just going to continue my life as goodness knows how long I have had it without knowing . I get dizzy sometimes and told to come back to GP if my BP is averaging high or low . GP not great but my cardiologist is seeing him in a year to see if any deterioration.
