Have you checked your oxygen levels and BP during these episodes Yumz? X

I checked my oxygen levels and they were fine and heart rate was 98 which is normal for me. Wasn't able to check my BP though but if it happens again will definitely do that X

Hi Yumz

I’m sorry to hear about what you’re experiencing. I know how frustrating it is when you know that something isn’t right but every test comes back fine. I was put on Bisoprolol for AFib about 18 months ago. Everything was fine for 6 months but then I started getting chest tightness and shoulder pain when walking which gradually got worse until it affected everything I did. I was fobbed off with the anxiety diagnosis initially being of a certain age 🙄 and was told categorically that it couldn’t be the Bisoprolol as it was such a small dose … eventually it turned out that it was!

I do hope you get some joy from your doctor today but get onto your heart team if not. You need to get to the bottom of what is causing your symptoms.

All the best to you and hoping you find an answer soon, TC

It's far to easy to be fobbed off with the anxiety and age thing when we know how to differentiate between the two. I'm always open to the possibility of age/anxiety however I'm also aware of the umbrella diagnosis of these two when some professionals just don't listen.Loved your reply sound advice and understanding.

Thanks Noodle. You’re quite right in that I’ve been a lifelong anxiety sufferer and am well used to the way it can manifest itself in physical symptoms but like you, am also able to differentiate between the two. As you say though, I have had experience of some professionals putting me in the “anxious middle-aged woman” box before I’ve even sat down! Fortunately, age also brings the ability to speak directly when needed😀

Sometimes we're dammned if we do and damned if we don't.On a humerous note. I've just come back from the supermarket and finding the shortest check out queue is not always a smart move. I chose a queue with three people each with a trolley, the lady in front of me her trolley was stacked so high even Sherpa Tenzing would have given that precarious mountain a miss. Part of me with my paltry melon wanted to shout "Woman of a certain age not wearing a bulky pee pad coming through" , naturally I didn't it was one of those many times that despite my knee giving way and back pain I found my inner humour and played my scenario in my head and smiled.

I knew there were two school children behind me so I ushered them to go in front of me as it was the right thing to do. You can't imagine my astonishment when they got to be served with one item each their mother swooped in like an unseen SAS soldier loaded with an arm full of shopping!!! Talk about using your kids to play on people's kindness, then I thought clever girl.

From one lady of a certain age to another We will not go unseen.

Your supermarket shenanigans made me laugh, Noodle, thank you😀 I can relate to your swooper story, having once ushered a frail elderly chap clutching a loaf to go in front of me, whereupon his wife, I assume, steamed through with a trolley load of shopping. I was so stunned I didn’t say anything! Was a lot younger then😀

Power to the sisterhood! 😀

Yeah I will be telling my heart team at my appointment on 21st anway because this pain is weird it's always there? Since Friday? So strange I think I'm falling apart 🙈x

It sounds like you’re really struggling there Yumz and I’m very sorry to hear it. Make sure you tell them how it is. As for me, I was switched to Verapamil by a rather grumpy EP who was convinced it wouldn’t make any difference - it did! I hope you can get things sorted soon x

I’m on 80mg x3 a day and a daily wagonload of prunes and flax seeds to deal with the main side effect of Verapamil😳😀

Thank you! ❤️

I feel for you yumz. As you know iam a bit new to this congenital heart journey. But I had bloods done a few weeks ago and they came back OK except my creatinine. Which then causes the kidneys to become sluggish. Have reduced my lisinopril and stopped spironolactone and the creatinine has reduced and kidney function has improved. But I still feel not right. I carnt really explain it. I think alot of it is mental, anxiety knowing I have a faulty heart now. I suppose by reducing the lisinopril has helped to increase my blood pressure so I don't get this posture dizziness when going from bending down to standing up. But I think I need to go back on the spironolactone? But I don't want my kidneys to play up. But I am not medically trained and the human body is so complicated. You carnt really think of it as a machine.. my condition is rare 1 in 200000 births but all the people who have my condition vary from one extreme to another. But we have to live with our bodies and we know when things are not right. But that's when the mind starts to panic because you carnt fix it yourself and you carnt explain it to your mind. You take care and hope you get some answers

Yumz199725 profile image
Yumz199725 in reply to

Ahh thank you! Aw so sorry about the effect spirolactone had on you what dose was you on I was on 25mg for six months bout 3 and a half years ago. Can they maybe reduce your dose or find an alternative medication to help with the dizziness?? x yeah I've known something isn't right for a while but I will see if it's just in my head or something is wrong I hate what anxiety does to your mind! I am trying sooo hard not too Google everything learnt my lesson! X

in reply toYumz199725

Same here googling is a pain. I was on 25mg spironolactone then I halved it to 12.5mg because my potassium went up. Unfortunately I had my stress test while I was on 12.5mg so I don't know if my stress test would have been better if I had been on 25mg? My gut feel is to reduce lisinopril or stay at 20mg and go back on 25mg spironolactone. But iam not the expert. The trouble with both medication is that they reduce blood pressure. And they have done this very well but you use them for heart failure, but I don't have heart failure in the true sense of the word. But as my right ventrical is not working efficiently due to the congenital problem then you are treated with these types of tablets. But when you don't feel right you can't seem to explain it very well. Because anxiety then causes similar feeling or it mimics the heart sensations. I have gone back to 50mg of setraline and have only been on this dose for about 2 weeks. But iam so angry and annoyed with myself.

Hi Yumz let us know tomorrow how you get on. It is very frustrating when you’re feeling in a certain way then everything comes back normal, don’t forget to mention the pain tomorrow. You might have to ask your doctor for an X-ray like someone else said. Was it you who had an mri scan recently? All the best for tomorrow x

Good morning...I've just had my bloods taken today to see whats happening. I had a Massive Heart attack while on holiday in Canada fitted with 4 stents (i was lucky, nearly lost me twice), so a 3 week holiday ended up 10 weeks... I also have had tightness in chest and back pain and complained about this from day one. I've had no answers either . Keep in touch so we can hear whats going on with each other

Yumz199725 profile image
Yumz199725 in reply toVelda1

Glad you back from your holiday! Hope your blood test shows what's been happening hope your not waiting too long for blood test x where did you get the back pain and how long for??? X

Velda1 in reply toYumz199725

I have had the pain in my left shoulder and down behind my heart since my op for stents. About 7 weeks, its a dull ache and sometimes gets worse if I've been walking.

. Tightness in chest is causing a cough, just spoken to doc and they seem to think its Acid Reflux causing that...AGH!!!!

What! That's probably what they will say to me dreading this appointment 💔. It's so not acid reflux!! For you I mean x

Praying for an end to the pain, and for wisdom to understand what is really happening so you can get the right treatment.

I am in a similar situation but I'm older and I am on BP meds. Is there any chance that you have nerve impingement in your neck or spine? I have chest pain that comes and goes as well as occasional pins & needles in neck, arms and shoulder. When I get physiotherapy treatment I feel so much better, so my husband bought me a Tens gizmo that I use on my neck which also helps. MY GP sent me for an MRI a year ago and it showed C6 & C7 cervical "wear & tear" that probably came from whip-lash from a long ago car accident when someone crashed into me from behind, so that's why my doc had the tests done - nothing showed up with heart damage except for palpitations and MVP. Were you involved in anything where your spine was traumatized?
