Hubby had cabg suffered x2 ischaemic strokes while in theatre anyone else same?

My hubby had his cabg triple a month ago and suffered 2 strokes during his cabg procedure. All well from cabg however the strokes have obviously added in a new dynamic. He's receiving physio and ot, eating and drinking well and now out of L.Pool hosp and in a local hospital stroke ward receiving rehab. We've been told it was a 1 -2 % chance of strokes happening and it happened. Apparantly the artery contents, during the bypass grafting process, can migrate to the brain causing a stroke, which is what happened. He didn't come around after his op as should have done and when sent for a brain scan, the stroke event, as it was named, was discovered. Its all feeling very surreal. Just wondering has anyone else here experienced this?

Same here... 18 months ago I had CABG x 3, then a stroke in the recovery room. Woke up mostly blind, paralysed left side and with convulsions. I hope your hubby is improving, including mentally, as this is draining. Do as much recovery physio as possible as soon as possible. It would appear improvements can be made long after the event, but the most gains are made as soon as is possible. Interesting book by a lady who had a stroke and was intent on taking control of her recovery. Also many interesting references to good advice (and motivation) - "Stroke Rebel" brain.rehab/brain-rehab-books. I also found that going into hospital for one thing (CABG) and coming out with another (Stroke) meant the medical follow was not every complete - I had cardiac rehab and cardiologist follow up but very little for the Stroke side. Happy to chat/share more...
