Anyone else suffer with svt

Hi I am new to this and have recently been diagnosed with svt. Does anyone else suffer? I have svt attacks and have been told to go to hospital in 10 mins if the palpatations do not go away by themselves. My doc thinks this is stress related. Can anyone else relate to this?

I do but my attacks don’t last long at all less then a minute although I had some defected in my sleep which never woke me. I still kind of refuse to believe I have it because I’m not symptomatic like most and it doesn’t really affect me on a day to day basis. What I find is any sickness, flu, period, virus triggers my heart to go funny now so lots of palpitations and racing heart, if I diet it triggers me. To little sleep can trigger your heart to play up. I’m on a very low dose beta blocker and my doctor keeps saying up the dose but I refuse because the meds can have side effects in some.

I know what u mean by upping the mefs I feel the same. I have been having palpatations for maybe 8 to 10 yrs. I went to the doc back then and had 24 hr ecg. The nurse said it was normal some people feel them and some don't. After that I just thought all my palpatations were normal. Then last August I was feeling achy like I had the flu and went to the docs who said he was going to have to send me to the hospital as he couldn't rake by blood pressure as my heart was racing to fast. (this time I nvr felt palpatations) so I went to hospital.. Straight into resus (scary!!) on ecg. Cannula in arm and after trying different things to get my heart rate down they decided to give me adenosine!! (omg what a weird, but effective drug) heartrate came straight back down to normal. I have had maybe 6 svt attacks since highest getting to 196bpm. Have been off work since november on ssp (disgusting how you are meant to live on £94 a week through no fault of your own!!) have been on bisoprolol since Nov and thought they were working as only had one bout in Dec which went to 135bpm n straight back diwn again, so I thought the tablets were controlling it and was then so disheartened last week when I had another bout and had to go to hospital again. I don't know if coincidental but I put bonjela on my tongue n less than 5 mins later heart was racing. The same week I had 24hr ecg again. 24hr BP monitor and echocardiogram which waiting for results

It’s strange but sometimes you can’t feel your heart racing which means you would not always know if your having an SVT attack every time. That must have been scary I know how you feel I was rushed into resus with a racing Heart and it’s more scary hearing them call out for adult priority and they act serious so you then panic not a nice place at all. Work can be difficult as most work places are

Not very understanding of the condition but I was told by a occupational therapist it’s covered under the work

Disability act so they have to make changes where possible to help you so easier shifts etc depending on the

Job of course. I had the same

Issue with the meds I thought omg they are amazing I am cured thank goodness for beta blockers and then they stopped working as much and

It was like how much can one up the

Dose surely you can’t keep going to the maximum dose which makes you really groggy. To be honest I have to say you do grow used to the

Palpitations which once may have

Made you fear death you eventually get them and think oh here we go. But obviously ending up in A&E needing meds to bring heart rate down is going to really effect your quality of life. Have you not been

Offered ablation ?

They have been talking of ablation and gave me leaflets. I have to see cardiologist again in 2 months

Also have told me if the palpatations don't go within 10 mins to go to hospital n to b fair. Our resus is brilliant. So helpful. We have a laugh n banter. They say oh it's OK she knows the drill lol..

I am awaiting ablation too, I was moving house so I cancelled the October one. I,m not sure about it and am worried it will give me further problems

I have Svt and have to have it put back in A and E. I have random episodes but I think anxiety is related to it, I have had attacks also when I was asleep so I can,t see that being anxiety. I must admit I have suffered depression and anxiety throughout my life and been treated for it

Me too. My doc and I both think mine is stress related. My body doesn't deal well with stress. I was ill about 20 yrs ago with anxiety depression n panic attacks with resulted in agrophobia for 4 yrs. Then about 10 yrs ago I go diagnosed with hemi facial spasm (twitchy eye) caused by tiredness and stress and now thus. I know I'm a worry wart though an worry about everything!!!

I was hospitalised for depression, not eating or sleeping, way back. Again in 2003 when I moved to a different area and left my job, a mentally abusive husband made me worse, I was on citalopram for i think 10 years. I came off them in 2013 and wish I hadn,t. I have been alone for 8 years now . I did not like being out in public on those occasions and did not want the company of people, I am too sensitive .

Hi, I have SVT 4 episodes since 1998 last one in 2014. Told by consultant not to bend over for long periods e.g. working in garden, weeding etc. Also told not to drink too much coffee. Hope this helps.

Hi Dawny1908. It is a horrid sensation. I had an episode of svt 9 years ago. Started with no warning, middle of night and pulse was near 200. Into resus and advised needed cardioversion but after about an hour it stopped and reverted back into sinus rhythm and normal rate, no treatment. No follow up appointment. Nothing since until this January and it happened again. This time diagnosed with AF and given apixiban and flecainide 50mg twice daily. Heart pounds at times but normal rhythm and no more than 80 beats per min. Both episodes I was told it was stress, possible, and dehydrated according to bloods. Get a follow up appointment and referral to cardiologist for ECG holter I think it’s called. Resus couldn’t believe I’d not had a follow up following first episode 9 yrs ago. Take care.

Hi. I agree it's horrible and the worst part is not knowing when it's going to happen, I don't like going far 'just in case' but the longer I go without an episode the more confident I get. They think mine is stress related too. I have hit 196bpm but at the min bisoprolol and flecanide seem to b controlling it hopefully. Its been 6 months now since my last episode x

It’s so reassuring talking to people on this forum. I know we all have pain and fears but sharing has really helped me as I’m sure it does everyone. I went back to work today after diagnosis. Oh my, head was ready but heart was not, had shortness of breath at times when I’d been talking too long in a mask and slight chest discomfort, pulse was stable, got follow appointments next week. Fine now I’m home with my dogs and pjs on. 196 is horrid, bless ya, stress can do awful things out of our control, take care and stay confident. Hope to speak soon, in a positive way. Take care x
