Leaky valves and arrythmia

Hi FriendsHas anyone had more than 1 leaky valves.? From an echo this year , it shows I have 3 of my heart valves leaking mildly , one of them according to the report is a little erratic, whatever that means.

My cardiologist didn't give me anything special for the condition. He just told me to continue taking my bisoprolol which is a beta blocker. I'm not sure if it's helping though as sometimes I still get skipped beats and out of rhythm beats. I always feel the arrythmic beats in my throat when it happens. It's a weird strange feeling.

Are any of you getting skipped beats and feel it in your throat too?

Hi Maraiathas it is possible to have more then one leaky valve I have seen on my hospital letters the aortic valve and tricuspid valve is leaking but it's only the aortic valve is the one of any concern. I am on verapamil for Ventricular Tachycardia and yes sometimes I do feel it in my throat? What does that mean then, did your cardiologist mention any symptoms to watch out for or what the treatment plan is. The usual plan is waiting and keeping an eye on you with appointments every year with echos, and eventually when it gets severe you would require surgery to repair or replace the valve. I have bicuspid aortic valve with severe aortic regurgitation and moderate stenosis so will eventually need valve replacement surgery. Hopefully the medication should help at the moment? When is your next appointment usually of there's anything of concern then they do an echo every year or when it gets really bad every six months. I'm sure others will be along to help and give some advice. Take care and keep us updated on your appointments and treatment plan x

Thanks Yumz199725 for replying. My cardiologists told me that there was no treatment for me at the moment. He said I should come back in a year's time for another echo and also a stress test. So I think he will be keeping an eye on things.

He didn't mention any type of treatment for the feeling in my throat all he said was that lots of his patents do mention that they feel a strange sensation in their neck/ throat when the heart plays up ,gets out of rhythm or skips a beat.

I was told if I go dizzy with these missed beats then I should go to the hosp or call an ambulance.

That's good that there keeping an eye on you I knew they would and doing a stress test will tell them alot aswell hope all the tests go well. Hope you don't end up feeling dizzy and needing to go to hospital 🏥. I'm glad it's nothing serious with the feeling in the throat but definitely makes sense now I get that feeling alot it's strange?. That's great news you don't need any treatment yet! X

hello Mariathas, the strange feeling in your throat is very normal

When you have an arrhythmia, I would describe the sensation as someone was grabbing me from the neck and squeeze. When I mentioned it to my cardiologist, she confirmed it is indeed one of the most common symptoms of Arrythmias and I need to worry if I get dizzy or faint.

Luckily atm, following a catheter ablation I’m Arrythmias free but still on beta blockers.

Regarding the leaky valves, it is indeed quite common to have more than one leaky valve and the plan your cardiologist has set up is pretty standard as things don’t move too fast luckily, normally it is yearly check up with echo.

I wish you all the best

Thanks, Letsallhope 1.

Hi I have a recently diagnosed severe aortic stenosis awaiting surgery and recent CT angiogram shows mild mitral regurgitation also with something called eccentric LAD plaques, plus 50 yr history of funny turns palpitations etc for which take betablockersPlus diabetes lol

So welcome to our club !

Hi Mariathas I use to get beating in my throat when I would get supra ventricular tachycardia (SVT) I grew up to adulthood thinking it was something beating in my neck and my throat and not my heart. Very weird sensation. I don’t know if other things like ectopic beats cause that same sensation. I’ve had ectopic beats after ablation surgery, but I can’t explain it. My heart electrical workings have a mind of its own so when it goes off half the time I don’t know what it is. I have persistent Atrial fibrillation(Afib), but I still can’t say what that feels like.

please let us know how you’re getting on. All the best.

Thanks for replying Deejay62 still holding on. My cardiologists just told me to continue taking bisoprolol 2.5mg daily and has organized that I have yearly echos. A stress test will be done with my next echo which won't be until September 2024. I still feel fluttering, skipped beats and palpitations. Also still feeling them in my throat/neck.They are horrible and scary. Right now all I can do is pray and ask God for His help, healing and keeping. I also have 3 mild leaky valves. I wish you all the best and good continuous heart health.

I have not felt that but seems to have helped bring down my heat rate from a high of 234 over 134 when I ended up in hospital and diagnosed with heart failure nearly 10 years ago.

As well as a heart block (now treated with a pacemaker), an echocardiogram I had done 4 years ago showed mild aortic regurgitation and supranormal left ventricular function with EF > 70%. This means that my left ventricle is beating harder than it should, and I can feel my heart beating most of the time, and when I lie down, I can feel it in my neck.

I also get a number of ectopic beats which feel like a missed beat followed by a hard thump in my chest. I feel these in my neck every time.

I think that the feeling in the neck is just blood pumping through my carotid artery at an unusually fast rate. I am not on any medication for this and when I have my annual pacemaker checks, the Physiologists don't seem bothered about it.

hi there. Yes, I had severe aortic stenosis diagnosed in November 2020. I had two leaking valves. I had open heart surgery in February 2021 and they replaced both my mitral and aortic valves and my ascending aorta too. Recovery was slow and hard but hopefully I am okay now although I do get breathless at times. I am very lucky to be alive and I was near death. I am as excellently treated, and it was during lockdown too, so I was lucky. I wish you all the very best xx
