Just came across this forum so thought I would create my own post!
Does anyone else suffer skipped beats/palpitations during exercise or towards the end? I randomly had some whilst playing football (5a side) the other night and I was just wondering if anyone else has? I do suffer with health anxiety and I have had ECGs and a stress test when I was a lot younger probably 15 years ago. I have had skipped beats during the day etc but I don’t recall them ever happening during a football match, so this is what’s really stopped me in my tracks and got me all worried and panicked.

I brushed off fluttering and pounding in my chest for a very long while , until I passed out while driving. That was the start of my cardiac journey. Non compaction, afib , trifasicular block ,was all revealed in hospital. Get yourself checked.
Ah yes. I used to get this after runs or at the end of gym sessions (up to an hour or so after working out). I was getting random palpitations when exercising too (suddenly shot up to 220bpm), but they were intermittent initially.
My sports watch logged a lot of the data and the high heart rates, which gave me some useful values when I went to the GP.
I would definitely get this checked out to ensure that there isn't anything underlying causing these symptoms. There could be many reasons why this is happening and finding out why will help you manage it in the longer term. For me, the cause was (is) an inherited condition, but it was undiagnosed for a long time and I was blissfully unaware, which subsequently made things a bit more complicated. 🤦🏼♂️
It might feel a bit scary or daunting, but this is a totally normal human response. Trust me, a lot of us have been through a similar journey.
Ultimately, getting checked should give you some clarity and peace of mind rather than leaving you wondering.
Look after yourself and let us know how you get on.
I get them all the time. I have noticed them during exercise as well but they are more noticeable at rest obviously. Quite few times in my life when I have gone to the extreme exercise I have felt my heart go all over the place. It eventually settles and I'm still here, only just lol
If you purely have what's usually described as palpitations/ectopic beats, they are quite common & usually benign. Exercise can be a trigger to make them more frequent, as can other factors such as stress, alcohol, caffeine, chocolate etc. Conversely they may be more noticeable when you are at rest, than when physically active. What may be of more concern is if the heart rate fluctuates a lot & the heart rhythm is irregular - confirmed by an ECG & commonly is Atrial Fibrillation. There have been some recent footballer/rugby examples. You may find this BHF booklet helpful:
Thank you for all the replies. I have had ECG that was normal last year and a 7 day monitor that was normal too. I may ask my GP for further tests. I’ll keep you all updated ☺️
It's probably very normal then. The ectopic your experiencing are most likely safe and no signs of any danger rhythms or other symptoms. The 7 day monitor would have picked up on this.
Thing is you get home and then your mind is rested for some time and then they start again. Your mind switches on, 'what if they missed something. This doesn't feel right.'
The feeling itself isn't quite nice. Your mind focuses on them and it makes them even worse! I can literally think of skipped beats and then they happen. Mind can trigger them. Aniexity triggers them.
Best thing is to cut out caffeine, limit alcohol and keep up the cardio exercise. They will still come and go in your life but just don't focus on them. They are safe!
