You’ll be fine. They just strip your blood of fat. You won’t wake up tomorrow 3 pounds heavier 😉

My GP has advised me to pause my statins for 6 weeks to see if it is the side effects which are the cause of my symptoms of feeling awful. I have been on them for years & he doesn’t seem concerned about it. So I would think a few days missing yours shouldn’t cause a problem, especially as you are on such a low dosage.

My GP did similar and cut my dose in half for 8 weeks to see if the side effects are resolved.

I think you'll be fine, I've ran out of medication at a weekend before now and been fine, I know it doesn't stop you worrying but I honestly think everything will be ok.

Have you been back to gp as if you've been diagnosed with gastritis as result of aspirin medication can be prescribed to protect the lining of the stomach and prevent further damage, also may be alternative to aspirin.

Aspirin also really irritates my stomach, Boredom, and gives me dreadful indigestion - have you tried the coated aspirin? My GP has changed my prescription to these, they don't irritate me half as much. Might be worth a try if you're not already using them.

Has your Dr prescribed Omeprazole, it's supposed to help the stomach with Aspirin?

As far as I am aware statins are, to some extent, a cumulative drug. So if you don't take your daily statin dose for a day or two the overall impact on your body's ability to reduce your cholesterol is not too significant. Added to which relative to other statins and their doses e.g. 40 mg Rosuvastatin, 10mg daily of Simvastatin is quite a low dose. In short don't worry about it.

pharmacist here - no worries. It’ll have zero impact. If you do run out of something you can either ask your regular pharmacist for a loan or emergency supply or ask 111 to send an emergency supply request to a pharmacy that’s open.

The good thing about statins is they aren’t addictive-there’s no withdrawal sensation.

I had to stop taking statins for 6months as they would have clashed with another med. My cholesterol did go up in 6 months but a few days of a low dose shouldn’t have an impact . It was interesting to see how the statins brought it back down again swiftly in a way I have never managed with diet and exercise despite having gone fairly hard core(some might have said OTT) in my 40s in an attempt to reduce it without meds.

Hope you get your stomach issues sorted soon, that’s beastly for you.

Hi, Boredom,

Statins can do several good things for us as I have read and heard from my doctors. They help to harden/calcify the soft plaque that many of us have in our blood vessels. This keeps soft plaque from breaking off, forming a clot, and causing a HA. Also, statins help to lower the LDL, or “bad” cholesterol in our bodies, thus lowering our risk of cardiovascular disease. Having said all of that, this is my only medication in which I feel safe if I miss a dose or two, or, since I take 40 mg daily, I feel safe if I forget that day and take two tablets.

You should be fine over the weekend in missing a couple of doses. Take care!

Absolutely fine. My GP stopped mine for 3 weeks to check whether they were causing my leg pains.

And what was the result, leg pains less or gone?

It made no difference. It wasn't the statins; just me dropping to bits again.

My cardiologist recommended I take 5 mg 3 times a week after he saw my MRI brain scan, to protect the small arteries at the top of the brain as he said they were showing signs of narrowing, so I assume that they stay in your blood for a while. They also give protection from TIA's of course.

However aspirin is a different matter and you should not take it unless a Dr has prescribed it specifically, say to protect a recent implant operation. If it's for pain, Paracetamol is the only stomach safe pain killer if you have a heart arrhythmia.

All the best
