Hi. I am taking a statin for high cholesterol, around 200. It’s working, but I have terrible muscle/joint pain. Is anyone taking something other than a statin for high cholesterol? Are there many side effects? Appreciate any advice.

Hello and welcome to the forum!
Unfortunately your bio is currently empty. Where are you posting from, and what statin and dose are you on?
Hi I take Ezetimibe as I am Statin intolerant. I have no side effects from it and my Cholesterol is 5.0 so not far from the recommended target 4.0 😁
My mother and I both started getting severe muscle and joint pains in our mid 60s. Neither of us were taking statins. We never found the cause for my mother. Mine seemed to be the result of my developing an intolerance to bread flour. These matters are complex to say the least.
Im not on statins or bp meds just Sotalol and Eliquis. Iwent to doc in July with joint pain and muscle pain blood test showed raised calcium and pth. Ive seen ENT consultant and endocrinologist conclusion is I have mild hyperparathyroidism. Repeat bld test in 3mths ,no improvement in either joint pain or muscle pain it is so draining. I understand your frustration in not having a solution. Best wishes.😀
Hi .I have taken a few different ones over the past 15 years and what I've learned is eventually they all give some sort of muscle pain.We have to weigh up the risks. They do work tho.
Did a bit of research on how I could supplement all the meds I have to take. While they all do some sort of good for our heart health, it doesn't mean they're good for the rest of our bodies.
Statins are probably the worst of the lot, and muscles cramps are quite common. What you could do is first have a chat with your GP to change the brand/dosage, but you could also speak to them about vitamin/mineral supplements. Statins have been shown to reduce the amount of coenzyme Q10 the body produces, and a shortage leads to cramping.
Although there's always bad press about statins they actually very rarely cause muscle pains> There's an excellent video on the BHF website where top specialists explain about statins. I'll find he link later if I have time. Meanwhile if one doesn't suit, get your GP to change it. There are several. My husband couldn't take simvastatin at all but others were fine.
I found the video. DO watch. youtube.com/watch?v=om7PnTd...
I had the same problem. please go back to your specialist as you have been given either a wrong dosage or you are allergic to the statins. It’s very important
