It's horrible isn't it when you psyche yourself up to do something and then at the last minute it's not happening!

If they haven't told you it's postponed then just assume it's going ahead as booked.

I would prepare for it to happen and be ready with your questions, but expect it to be canceled.

There is nothing worse than being unprepared and in the wrong frame of mind if it then actually goes ahead as you will be floundering..

Thank you my brother is coming to listen to the call and take notes I have only just told my 3 brothers about my issues as I did not want to worry them and we have not long lost our mum and they all have their own lives but realised they needed to know apart from anything else to know there is heart disease in the family

My son, who is 3 and waiting in heart surgery, has his operation cancelled for the third time due to strikes.

Omg that is awful and unbelievable and here is me banging on about a phone call being cancelled I am so sorry I cannot imagine what you are all going through have they given you another date ?my heart useless as it is goes out to all of you my post must have really annoyed you I am so sorry

Not at all, we all experience different emotions. My son only has half a heart and we knew the operation would be coming at some point. He was born just before the pandemic, we had two weeks home after he recovered from his first surgery at 6 days old.

The thing to remember is this is the Government's fault, not the healthcare providers, they are striking for multiple things including not being able to provide a safe service despite their best efforts. We back them all the way and reject the Govt's divide and conquer tactics.

With any luck everybody, including yourself, gets seen to quickly post-strike. If anything ambiguity must be harder for you as our son is pretty unaware of the issues thankfully, being so young.

Glad to hear you have told your brothers though, don't keep stuff like this to yourself. You need help and support despite losing you mum not to long ago which is going to be adding to your strain.

Thing is it doesn't solve your problems when you get told others are worse off than you does it?

Point is that phone appointment is important to you personally.

It's upsetting though when you are led to believe you are getting things and no you aren't and the door gets slammed shut in your face!

it’s just as stressful for the junior doctors, I know my sons one, it’s wrong he’s had to resort to medication to help him cope

Hi would expect it to be cancelled. My husband had a planned call yesterday didnt happen, no cancellation notification, nothing. Think its shameful to have both consultants and junior docs on strike at same time, this is only hurting their patients and will for years to come.

Ok thats what I was thinking I should probably cancel my brother as he is taking unpaid time off work I might try and ring today and find out but even talking to somebody seems impossible

If you do cancel your brother at least be prepared yourself, jot down some questions, keep a notebook next to you and expect the call and be ready to tune in. Let's see if it does happen or not

That's exactly what the Government want you to think. They want to divide and conquer. The pressures they are under is immense. I've found if I call on behalf of my son to chase things up they bend over backwards to help and organise things. They are just swamped with work and a Government that is happy to pay out to store dodgy PPE on a daily basis that they paid their fellow MP and now Lord to contract out. Those are the people we should be aiming our anger at, not the healthcare professionals.

This of course does not take away the stresses and strains of navigating such situations.

I saw something yesterday from a local (north west) hospital which said that although a lot of appointments are likely to be cancelled a number will still be going ahead and do not assume it will be cancelled. Fingers crossed that yours is one to go ahead.

I was at hospital with the strike on other week and I also was waiting for the text or call to cancel but mine went a head as normal and infact if you were in the hospital you wouldn’t have realised that they was a strike on. But for 8 drs standing at entry

Ah ha! This is why my appointment for today was moved to Thursday! It's annoying as the macerated wounds on my foot (they think it is the result of micro-clots from a bout of that we dare not mention) would have been redressed after the consultation, The current dressing is getting uncomfortable and I suspect damp underneath with ooze! The story I got when they rung and changed it was from Brothers Grimm. Patient Transport also use that reference!
