I have just received an appointment for the removal of a Cataract from a Private Health Provider.

I had one ( left ) removed a few months ago again from a Private Provider so they are trying to reduce the backlog !!!

Regards

We have a friend who is having a knee replacement done on Sunday at a private hospital, he's an NHS patient.

I had an MRI scan a couple of months ago at a private hospital as an NHS patient.

Hello Yes it looks like they are really trying to get the list down.

If you require some treatments on the NHS such as surgery you should be offered an opportunity to choose where you go, although your GP may be reluctant to do this unless you ask. This is called 'choose and book' also 'e-referral'. This has been in place for some years now, and I assume it's still going. Some of the providers on the list you are offered may be run by private health concerns, although choosing a private health concern does not necessarily mean you are seen sooner since you are governed by their waiting lists for their NHS patient allocation. Under this scheme I have had a knee and carpal tunnel procedures, and my wife has had two hip replacements. My neighbours have also had knee surgery at a private hospital through the NHS.

In June 2021 I was referred by my optician to a private company working on behalf of the NHS. By the end of June I had been assessed and had the first operation. By September the second one was done. My treatment throughout was excellent. This year, however, I have developed an apparently fairly common problem after cataract surgery; clusters of cells stick to the lens interfering with your vision but they can be removed with a laser. Which brings us to the NHS's big problem; the waiting list. Because I cannot read comfortably and I'm afraid I will be unable to drive before much longer I am paying to have it done privately later this month. They are certainly helping to bring down the initial waiting list, but if there is a problem afterwards then you just have to wait - or pay.

I was referred for removal a few months ago within a week providing I could travel to a private clinic. Sadly I had to postpone it.,
