Echocardiogram

Hi, discovered 5 months ago that I have high BP. After having 2 ECGs (nothing untoward detected), calcium ct scan (zero score) & medication, looks like finally under control. Today I've received a letter for appointment at hospital to go for echocardiogram (another doctor from my surgery has requested this). Now I'm panicking, thought that because all other results have been of no concern that I'm okay. Are they just being extra careful that they haven't missed anything? Thanks

Yeah I think there just covering all bases to make sure they haven't missed anything. I hope your echo goes well.

If you have a CAC score of 0 this means that your arteries are in good shape, it almost means within reason that it would almost be impossible for you to have common types of cardiac events, unless there are other issues going on not mentioned in the post, you truly are in great shape, the echocardiogram will look at the measurements and dimensions of various areas around your heart, and the flow and pressures through the valves, it is highly likely it was ordered to confirm all is well, you should relax, and in time through medications and health improvements work on your BP, I would certainly not be overly concerned, I would look forward to the echocardiogram, you will find out more and its always good to know more data. In the small % chance something is found on the echo then your doctors will deal with it.

Yes, great you have a pro active GP. Rather than being too anxious about what you don't know, you have an opportunity to turn that anxiety into a positive strategy. Do all you can to help the NHS by making changes/improving your health especially your cardiovascular health. Even small improvements help. As we age many things age too, it's inevitable. The echocardiogram may come back with some minor observations which may well be dismissed as to be expected, and no further action.I am making some assumptions that there is room to improve your health, this may be very impertinent of me! But even small changes can have huge beneficial effects. Do you run? Have you ever considered running ? Do you walk for exercise as opposed to a stroll? These are simple things to improve that can bring massive benefits and a real boost to self esteem. Look up Active 10 or Couch to 5k or Parkrun (if your still reading this pep talk!).

Whatever, hope you have a nothing to see here result and please try not to worry too much. It won't help.

Not what you're looking for?
