I am getting this error regularly and have contacted Roche Helpdesk and done a few things they recommend, but the error still comes up. I have tried:
New test strip batches
New Batteries/ cleaning battery connectors
Cleaning the pad where the strip goes in
Unplugging the chip and plugging in again
The error still comes up every time and I usually get about 8 errors and waste one or more strips before it happily works as if nothing is wrong.
It’s usually a combination of reboot, reinserting strip, chip out and in (but not all the way, sometimes) strip change etc. but I have not found one thing that consistently makes it work properly.
Any suggestions, apart from sending it back to Roche (I am travelling and dependent on it currently). Please review what I’ve tried before commenting. Thanks.

hi. I’ve had this a few times and it was sorted by cleaning the pad where the strip goes in, just as you’ve tried. I always use an alcohol wipe to do this then let it dry for 30mins before trying again. I’m assuming that this is what you do.
When I had a similar problem I contacted Roche who suggested a hard reset of the meter by pressing down on the on/off button for 20 seconds and waiting for the meter to power back on.
If that doesn’t work I contacted Roche by email on burgesshill.customerservice@roche.com. Their telephone number is 01444 256000. This gets you straight through to technical services.
Thanks, Anon. I understand from Roche that there were some dodgy strips but I’ve now discovered that reinserting the same strip at different angles and speeds usually gets it working after 3-4 tries. So will carry on with this workaround for now.
I’m wondering if you’ve also updated your machine with the latest firmware. The most recent version is 01.09.00YT. My machine has been playing up recently and Roche suggested checking that it was up to date. If you need to update it I’ve copied the link below. Best wishes.
Good afternoon, I try to restart the Coaguchek INRange device (error 23 is constantly displayed) by holding down the on/off button for 20 seconds, but it does not reset. Can you explain the process to me?
I’m now on my 4th batch of test strips since the problems started and everything is now working normally. I believe there were was a problem with some batches of strips, hopefully now sorted out.
