Hi all, thought you lovely lot could help 😁. I have had to do a sample from first thing in the morning, duly done but it has been rejected, don't know why. BUT I'm probably like everyone else that gets up in the night ( usually about 4am) should I take this one as first thing or as I did before, the one at 7.30am?
Urine Sample Rejected?: Hi all, thought... - British Heart Fou...
Urine Sample Rejected?
They can be rejected by the labs for a few reasons, e.g. not refrigerated.
As long as it is the same day 4 am should be fine.
I have never been asked to refrigerate urine sample I have provided, although I can understand why it is likely needed. Handing in on the day is was taken seemed far more important.
Some samples (not sure about urine) get refrigerated by the practice until they are collected to be transported to the lab.
Go back to those who rejected it and ask why it was rejected. Without that knowledge you run the risk of repeating your experience. For your info urine samples are usually taken 'mid stream'. And timing is important but not critical (especially if you have to get up in the night). Next some urine samples require a chemical in a container provided by your health provider, so a container you provide may exclude it from the analysis. Finally urine samples are usually handed in on the day you take it, since they can deteriorate with time.
Nothing to do with the quality lol! Sample was in correct container, mid stream. Just had a call from the surgery and apparently the bar code was not attached to the sample........yes it was cos I made sure and its not the first time I've done one! Never mind, it will be repeated. As the documentation is at the surgery I will put the barcode on in front of one of the receptionists just to make sure.Thank you for your responses.
Some reasons for urine sample rejections: The most common reasons for specimen rejection were contamination (n=764, 35.1%), inappropriate collection container/tube (n=330, 15.2%), quantity not sufficient (QNS) (n=329, 15.1%), labeling errors (n=321, 14.7%), hemolyzed specimen (n=205, 9.4%), and clotted specimen (n=203, 9.3%).
New sample done, I managed to hold on until 6.30am lol. barcode done, envelope sealed....so now I wait! Thank you for all your replies
