Amlodipine

I am on 10mg of Amlodipine plus another type of drug. The Amlodipine makes me nauseous but the combo is effective in controlling my BP.

Does anyone know if you can split the Amlodipine dosage 5mg in morning and 5mg in evening and whether this helps symptoms or not?

In the UK, trying to make an appointment with GP is a nightmare so thought I'd ask here.

Thanks

hi there. I was on lisinopril for blood pressure, still am. I had chest pain and they gave me extra tablet amlodipine of 5mg, I stopped taking the amlodipine didnt seem any point. I had chest pain because i was drinking vodka and it made my blood pressure go up. I have had no problem with the lisinopril at all. It would be fine to split the med ir just see how you are on 5mg.

If you find it difficult to arrange an appointment with your GP, speak with your local pharmacist who will be professionally qualified to answer your question,.

As folk on here are not qualified to give advice on an internet forum you MUST talk to your pharmacist or, preferably, your doctor.

or maybe your GP will have a nominated person to discuss medications. My small GP practice has someone and an appointment with them is promptly available.

My GP surgery in a village has its own pharmacist for phone advice plus our village pharmacy has just reopened as an independent we are VERY lucky I hope you will be able to get professional advice

Im also on those drugs as well as betablocker statin and 2 diabetic meds

I take the lisinopril and bisoprolol as split doses the larger am and a small dose eve to help get me thru the night

Last night i struggled with a very low BP immediately followed by a really high then a migraine, Following a stressful day having a CT angio with betablocker extra injections and contrast dye

Hope you find an answer so you can feel better soon

when you talk to your pharmacist (as suggested above) you could also ask about changing the time of the dose: maybe before or after a meal, at bedtime or another time which would reduce the nausea? for many medications the time of day is less important than taking it regularly and a pharmacist tends to know more about this than a GP

Have you asked your pharmacist? They know much more about drug dosages than G Ps do

Many thanks for your responses. Unfortunately my nominated pharmacy is quite poor and always suggests checking with GP or calling NHS 111 to anything remotely challenging.

As for my GP surgery, I don't have much confidence in them as they have recommended a 10mg dose of Amplodipine that a cardiologist 5 years ago recommended in writing I didn't take due to a reaction and that was only a 5mg dose.

You don't have to go to your 'nominated pharmacy'. You can call in on any pharmacy.

Hi Richard, I don’t know about splitting doses (maybe best to ask your doctor/pharmacist) but I was taking 10mg of Amlodipine and really suffered with swollen ankles and feet. I have since changed to 5mg of Amlodipine and 5mg or Ramipril and no more swollen ankles! My BP is stable and I few so much better able to be active.
