Good morning all, can I ask if anyone has suffered from swollen ankles turning slightly blue with Amlodipine. I have a video appt with my cardiologist tomorrow and wonder if it is worth putting this question to him. I don't think it's oedema if I press it the skin does not stay in. I am trying to get things right now my husband depends on me a lot more due to his walking and balancing issues.

Hello :-)

I didn't even have to think twice in replying mention it to him and hopefully you will be able to show him to

It no doubt is nothing to worry about but always worth mentioning these things especially as we do not get these calls so often where we can :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Yes its a side effect and I get swollen angles from Amlodipine which I am told is purely cosmetic. Seem to get fatter legs by the day also but in the morning back to normal. Im on 10mg per day

I have had swollen ankles since going up to 10 mg my GP now says this is too much and wants me to change to 5mg and top up with Ramiplia (think that’s how it is spelt) my ankles also increase during the day but are back to normal in the morning.

Dear Mirador19 I took Amlodipine for several months and was sent to A & E twice with constant palpitations. I finally read the leaflet that came with it and found this was a very rare side effect and so could ask A & E about it. Result - drop Amlodipine, palpitatations went away. Is there anything in your leaflet about what your husband is experiencing?

Hi Arpadoppia. I do think Amlodipine has a side effect of swollen ankles so I will check with my cardiologist if it is anything to be concerned about. The concern is for me as I need to be as fit as I can be with my heart condition. I have to do so much more due to my husband's condition. (sorry if my original post has confused anybody). I don't want any more complications in my health if I can avoid them.

I take 10mg of amlodipine and my ankles slightly swell as the day progresses but they do not turn blue.

I had swollen feet and ankles when my amlodipine was increased to 10mg. This improved gradually during the year following. My doctor added Ramipril 10mg as my blood pressure was becoming difficult to control: After two weeks on Ramipril my swollen feet and ankles recovered perfectly to normal - the first time for over 20 years but I've no idea why.

There are well over 100 side effects from amlodipine including bluish skin. mayoclinic.org/drugs-supple...

I have just had my video consultation with my cardiologist. He was very helpful but the upshot of it all is he cannot do a lot until he has the results from the cardiac CT Angiogram. He will address the issue of swelling ankles after he has the results. I have had 5 angiograms and a few stents fitted one being a restent which caused a heart attack. Hopefully I don’t have anymore plaque but we will see, or maybe they will investigate the small vessel disease!

Hi, I hope you get your meds/ankles soon. My cardiologist changed me from amlodipine to lercanidipine for my very swollen ankles/legs which has helped but not completely. A nurse at my GP surgery prescribed me support socks which also has made a difference.

I have just been given amlodipine a week ago to add to my verapamil it is 5 mg but after 4 days my feet swelled up so much I couldn’t even wear my house slippers so I’ve lowered it to 2.5 mg by cutting it in half and that’s ok still some swelling but I can now put my shoes on as when it swelled up on 5 mg I had to cancel my dentist appointment as I’d have had to have gone in bare feet so I’m hoping to get hold of my dr next week to discuss this with her
