hi, I’m having a night out with my friends and I haven’t tried having a drink while on ivabradine yet. I see that it’s recommended not to, but would one drink be okay??

It's really best to be avoided - it can drop your blood pressure and cause dizziness and blackouts.

If you're keen, it might be best to try one in a safe space like your home with a friend and see how it affects you, rather than out in a bar where there might be the temptation to keep going?

I’ve been on ivabradine for years now and I have alcoholic drinks, mainly wine/champagne, without any problems. I didn’t even know that it was contraindicated as such! However, as we always say, everybody is different and so you should take medical advice rather than assuming that it will be ok for you.

Same here! Although I’m usually asleep before my third!

I also have been on this tablet along with many others but still enjoy a drink or two without any problems. Moderation is the key

It seems odd that I have never had that advice, although as previous post, everyone is different. Take care all.

Ivabradine lowers your heart rate alcohol does the same thing it can be dangerous but each to there own, my cardiologist told me it's not a good idea to consume alcohol while taking Ivabradine.

Hi Bellawebbo. I have been on Ivabradine since my incident 10 years ago. I don't remember any advice from Cardiac nurses or doctors on stopping drinking alcohol. I am retired and like a drink most nights usually one G&T and a small glass of red wine with dinner. Usually 2 nights off alcohol a week. My BMI is low at 20.5 so not a lot of me and I have no problems with regular moderate drinking and occasional additional celebratory drinks spread out over a few hours. Depending on any other circumstances I believe it is worth maintaining anything that you previously enjoyed and keep it in moderation. Have a good night out and many more.
