Hi, I am new to the community. I was discharged from hospital on Sunday after having a heart attack the previous Thursday.
It was a massive shock as I look after my fitness and I eat a well balanced diet.
I have high cholesterol but this is because my body makes too much of it. My doctor always saw me as low risk, so I wasn't on Statins.
I am on medication now for the rest of my life. However, I this is not going to stop me leading a fit life. I want to use my otherwise strong heart to raise money for the BHF. It will take a little amount of rehab, but then I will be back.
Is there a way I can share my experience to help prevent others from going through the same? I thought I was invincible, you cannot see your cholesterol!

It could be familial hypercholesterolaemia that runs in your family as I've had 3 heart attacks before hand fit and healthy but a strong family cardiac history
Sorry to hear of your recent issues. Glad to hear you are on the road to recovery.
You can help on here by sharing your expiriences. But you can also get intouch with the BHF to see if they can publish a story on your experiences. This would be exstremly helpful to others.
You could also create a blog on Youtube etc. I do feel BHF, will be only to happy to advise you.
Let us know what you deside to do, will be topic of great reading. Goid luck,
Welcome Frizzers sorry to hear your story, I agree with Sina on sharing here though you'll probably be preaching to the converted, a blog on YouTube, Facebook postings, basically any medium to spread the word
Hi Frizzers, I had a CA March 16 through blocked arteries due to high cholesterol, mine was 10.2 and does run in the family but my basic C tablets were not doing a job, so after all this trauma and happy to still be here I had an appointment with the UCL hospital in London and they have got me down to around 5 with healthy HDL over the bad LDL, tabs taking are 10mg Rosuvastatin (Crestor) and 10mg Ezetrol, these work for me and with a further follow up in Oct to see if I am staying the same or better, not sure about side effects because taking other tabs you don't know what is, needless to say all liveable. hope this helps and wish you well.
That's good to hear and well done on halving your cholesterol. Thanks for the well wishes.
Hi there - sorry to hear about your heart attack, it certainly does seem it came completely out of the blue for you.
A few couple have mentioned familial hypercholesterolaemia already - do you know what your cholesterol result was when you had it taken by your GP? You can read a little more about it here: bhf.org.uk/heart-health/con...
Hi getrico, thank you for the advice. I don't eat a lot of meat and I certainly stay away from processed food. I'm not sure if I, and my family, could move to a plant only diet.
I was under the impression that oily fish was good for you. Not that I eat a lot of fish either.
