Has anyone had hip replacement surgery with a pacemaker. I have already had a hip replaced but that was before being diagnosed with Heart Failure and having a pacemaker. Just wondered if it is possible as I was told I would probably need the other hip replaced at some point. I have just started having signs that I might it eventually. Thanks.

Hip Replacement
Hi Lovedogs1. I am in the same position. I had my first replacement well before my PM. I have been told I need the other. I offered to go to any hospital for it, but was told I need to be in a major hospital due to my heart issues. I live near Milton Keynes where they utilise some private hospitals for hip replacements. However, these donr have intensive care facilities, so I must go to MK main hospital. Good luck!
Hi
I had CA 6 yrs ago and since 5 cardio versions and 2 ablations
I also have an ICD
Needed new right hip 2 yrs ago, private treatment
I live in Hertfordshire and the closest hospital for this op was London Bridge hospital, as it has a cardiac unit with a cardiologist on call. Also they had to switch my ICD off and again needed specialist nurse. Had specialist cardiac nurse first night as precaution
Op was very successful and up and walking following day. Went in Friday was supposed to come out Monday but actually came out Wednesday
The op is easy and have been pain free ever since
Good luck
I was due to have a hip replacement in February but when I went for my pre-op assessment they discovered I had LBBB and would need a pacemaker so op was cancelled. Cardiologist said I was in imminent danger of collapse - what a shock! I'm 72 but always thought I was fit and well. Was put on dapagliflozin and spironolactone straight away and had CT and MRI scans. Was told my hip could be done once heart was stable but has to be in hospital with ICU. Had a CRT-P pacemaker fitted in June now also taking Entresto and Bisoprolol Have appt to see consultant about hip on 20/9 but this will likely be cancelled due to strike. Really hoping op is not too long away now as pain is much worse.Good luck!
If it is the anaesthetic that is the problem with the pacemaker they may be able to do an epidural. Ask ablout that option. They are becoming quite common for hip replacements.
Yes, I was hesitant initially about a spinal as had a bad experience in childbirth - however have been assured it's all different now so will likely go for that option. Heard good things from others as regards how quickly they recovered.
I live in Scotland and had hip replacement 10 months after having had aortic valve replacement. I did not have a general anaesthetic and I remember having a blether with the anaesthetist and my surgeon talking to me during surgery! I had my hip op in a private hospital and was put into their HDU/ICU immediately after surgery for a few days. Prior to surgery, my surgeon contacted my NHS cardiologist (who worked in the same NHS board as him).
