My son had a stroke (clot) just over a year ago at age 48. He is still on Clopidogrel. Is anyone else on this one long term rather than an anticoagulant such as Edoxaban (which I’m on as have afib)? My son didn’t ask at his cardio appt and won’t be seeing anyone for some time. Thanks

Yes, I have taken Clopidogrel for seven years. Not only no problem, but as a side effect my migraines have reduced to virtually nil. Yes I bleed if cut, but I have got used to that and have managed careful shaving and daily gardenning quite satisfactory. I take the odd paracetamol in lieu of aspirin.
I suggest your son talks to his GP who is best placed to determine whether the medication he takes is the most appropriate for him. Everyone on here has a unique set of medical circumstances and the treatment regimes for a handful of conditions are varied.
I had a TIA ('mini stroke') in July 2014 and have been on a daily 75mg Clopidogrel since then along with a statin and Losartan. Following a triple heart bypass in July 2019, I continued with the same medication. I wish your son well.
Morning footbat; I had a TIA years ago and did a trial with clopidogral..in Aintree hospital . It was ok during the trial period but went Pear shaped soon after. Can't remember how but no one seemed interested when I advised the trial nursing team. I was very surprised it was passed.
I would speak to your son's GP or ask your son to speak with them or his cardiologist. I have been on Clopidrogel for over twelve months and did for a few days stop taking it because of side effects and took one asprin a day instead and when I spoke with my cardiologist within a week of not taking Clopidrogel he said I had to stay on it so I did as I was told as clearly my cardiologist knows what he's talking about.I hope you get it sorted children no matter how old are very precious.
I am on both clopidogrel and apixaban (Edexoban is a less expensive version of this). They work in different ways, one is an anti coagulant ,clopidogrel is anti platelet. hope this helps
Hi clopidigrel is an anti platelet and the drug of choice for stroke and HA. My daughter at 25 last year had a stroke she is on long term clopidigrel. I am on apixaban an anticoagulant after venous clots lungs and axillary vein. I would be surprised if you were both on anything different. Your son could chat to his gp
Clopidogrel seems to be the ‘go to’ anticoagulant following stroke. My husband has been taking it now for ten years and there has been no suggestion that he should change. On it for life and he’s quite happy about that as it reduces the risk of another stroke.
Hello, I had a stroke following being taken off bypass machine 2019 and recommended to continue on Clopidigrel long term. No problems with it.
I have been taking 75mg clopidogrel since I had a stroke in March 2020. The neurologist who prescribed it said I would always need to take it to minimise the possibility of future strokes.
Hi. I was on Clopidogrel 75mg after a mini stroke June last year, but because of the side effects I was getting, plus also developing Atrial Fibrillation, my GP changed me to Edoxaban (Liliana) as he said this was a stronger blood thinner to reduce the risk of blood clots which could cause a stroke or heart attack.Best wishes
