Dear Dunandjam

On the right side of this page you should find “abbreviations and acronyms “. Press and have a look. It gives all sorts of explanations.

BHF is a mine of help support and information.

Coronary artery bypass graft.

Best wishes

Sooty

Is this option available on an iphone because I can’t see it? I usually google say cabg heart etc.

Ageingfast in reply toFazerboy

Yes it’s on an iPhone. It is the right hand pane, probably need to swipe right/left or try swipe up/down Or find a ten year old to show us. My iPad shows both panes on one screen.

I can’t fathom how to use a mobile phone, let alone a smart phone.

Best wishes

Sooty

It’s swipe up it’s almost at the bottom of the page. I use to say swipe down then the kids laughed and corrected me.

No. Tried swiping all directions. I’ll have to ask a youngster (I’m 67).

Hi Dunandjam, your post made me smile as it gave me a reminder of being in hospital waiting for a triple bypass last year and wondering what all those CABG labs signs were for - I soon found out though! As Blackcatsooty has mentioned it means Coronary Artery Bypass Graft - I'm not very well up on the abbreviations either so thank you from me too Blackcatsooty for that Abbreviations and Acronyms pointer - I hadn't noticed it before.😊

Hello :-)

I still wonder what most abbreviations are and I do look to the side of the page and sometimes I cannot even find them on there either so you are not the only one and I think there are a few more of us to have the same problem

Hope you have a lovely weekend :-) x

Hello :-)

I was never really poorly to be honest even though I am not well with other bits and bobs but not why I stopped coming on here

Thank you though and I hope you are well :-) x

Hello BeKind,

Thanks for your comment, we are only "ordinary people" aren't we? Hope you have a lovely weekend too x

Im quite edgy at the moment as I'm waiting for chemo & radiotherapy treatment to commence and I've been told another 4 weeks.

Hello :-)

Yes just ordinary people that is true but hopefully we can be kind to each other as it makes such a difference :-)

I am sorry to hear what you are waiting to have done there is no wonder you are edgy I would be going out my mind well maybe I already am

I wished there was something I could say to comfort you but know genuinely we care and we are here to talk to and please let us know how you get on :-) x

😀😀You're right! Thanks for your kind words too. Ive got to be hospitalised for 4 days as chemo could affect my heart problems! I only have chemo at week 1 and again at week 4 for 4 days (hospitalised for that too) and radiotherapy at the same time daily Monday to Friday! Consultant is confident it can be eradicated; its anal cancer and GP examined me as I thought I had haemorrhoids but he felt a lump that he wasn't sure of and he referred me on 2wk wait to colorectal consultant. this was October last year! I didn't get the polyp removed until 19 May and was flabbergasted to learn I'd got cancer. Just want to get the treatment over with. Got to get my hair cut short as will surely lose it but it has thinned a lot due to all the stress so don't mind having a wig.

I hope you are doing OK, you've always been kind and supportive to me and others on this forum and it is much appreciated. x 👍

Hello :-)

I am so sorry you are having to go through this what with the heart and now this you are so strong I would literally be a wreck and I admire you so much how you are dealing with it :-)

Sounds like even though initially there was a wait now they have caught it that they are confident they can cure this which I hope gives you some reassurance

It is good that they will keep you in Hospital so they can monitor your heart while you have the treatment done you know you are going to be in safe hands :-)

As for your hair I can only imagine it will be maybe emotional to see it temporally go but there are so many nice wigs head scarves and I know people that have had cancer that when their hair does come back it comes back thicker than ever and better condition to so keep your mind on that thought

This will soon be behind you and keep talking on here to friends and family get all the support you can because you deserve it and I am looking forward to that post I hope you will do to say you are well it worked and you have to go and get a cut on your hair it has grown so much :-) x

Thank you sincerely BeKind! I will keep you informed. I'm very lucky in the fact that a neighbour of ours, a lovely man, and he is a senior nurse in charge of the cancer ward, he told my husband visiting is any time up to 9pm and the hospital is 10 min walk from our house so that's good.xx

I am so pleased to read this you are going to have the support you need and deserve and I am sure your neighbour will guide you as much as he can

Visitors till 9pm is very good as well you might have to do a rota as I imagine everyone will want to come and say hello :-)

You have got this I know you have and I will look out for when you update us :-) x

I agree and some of the abbreviations are not listed on this page; I have been guilty on occasions mainly because I’m not much of a typist and certain procedures are so lengthy when written in full.

Cabg means coronary artery bypass graft. Its bypass surgery if the heart. You can get a single, double, triple or quadruple bypass. So a single us where they bypass one artery, double is 2, triple is 3, and quadruple is 4. A single is very rarely done as it is such invasive major surgery. A stent is the preferred option if one artery is diseased, but ultimately it depends on the disease and what the surgeon thinks. Cabg is always a last option as it is such major surgery. I had a double in January after 3 heart attacks and 2 failed stents. I hope this answers your question.

Sljp0000 profile image
Sljp0000 in reply tomomander

Not a last option for me. Unfortunately my triple CABG failed so they resorted to stents. Just praying they last. 🙏

momander profile image
momander in reply toSljp0000

Oh gosh I'm so zorry!! Dud they tell you why thd triple cabg wasnt a sucess???My surgeon told me they always try stents first then cabg. I hope the stents are a success for you. Take good care

Sljp0000 in reply tomomander

I was told stents wouldn't work cos I'm diabetic. They wanted to do quad bypass but could only do triple. The grafts clotted and failed straight away. Maybe even before I came round from surgery. It's been a dreadful year. I nearly lost my life from a severe Pulmonary Embolism after the surgery too. All for nothing. And my phrenic nerve was damaged during the surgery so my diaphragm is paralysed. Thank God they were able to stent my original arteries, the LAD was fully occluded. I now have 4 large stents in 3 arteries. Everytime I walk I dread Angina coming on again x

I find it helpful to search Google if I don't know what a particular abbreviation stands for. You need to put 'medicine' or 'cardiology' after the abbreviation and it will usually come up with the answer, eg 'CABG cardiology'.
