I am suffering greatly from acid reflux while taking dabigatran.

Grateful for any advice regarding antacids and ppi that are safe to take with this drug.

Thsnks.

I take Gaviscon however, your pharmacist will have a list of interactions between different medications so it’s probably worth calling them in the morning and asking them which one would be most suitable for you to take. Omeprazole also tends to be another popular one.

Good luck.

Morning. I was prescribed Lansoprazole 15mg for acid reflux and to protect my stomach from my blood thinner. Worth asking your doctor if that would be good for you to be prescribed.Good luck.

Thanks Petercat, doc has prescribed 15mg Lansoprazole.

Not sure if it’s best to take it morning, or night?

If you are suffering from side effects from taking medication which are causing you distress, as in this case acid reflux, you should be talking to your prescribing health professional, e.g. your GP, who is best placed to prescribe an alternative or something to counteract the effect.

I have spoken to my GP who has prescribed Lansoprazole.

I was interested in knowing what others take to prevent acid reflux…

I have reflux disease which is nothing to do with taking medication. For that I take lansoprazole and before that I took esomeprazole. You might find looking at your diet may help you since some foods may be acting as trigger foods. Certainly citric fruit juice and tomatoes (acidic) , spicy foods (irritants), onions ( gas producing ) and coffee and chocolate (relax the oesophogeal sphincter) are known triggers . You might have others. One of mine is green bell peppers, but not red peppers!

I do try to watch my diet. I do not eat anything after 6pm. I can’t eat citrus fruit, I do not drink coffee, I drink decaf tea.

I do eat tomatoes, and tomato based foods. I will look to cut back on them.

My reflux symptoms have become worse since starting on the meds…

Not what you're looking for?
