Diuretics and maintenance daily potassium?

HiOn a high level of tabletted furosemide. Deep joy. Off and on my potassium has been low and is topped up by fizzy tablets and has always worked so far. The problem is the symptoms are quite similar to low bp and...heart failure...and beta blockers...so I tend to struggle on and this time it's 2.9 and was v symptomatic with hard to bear nerve and muscle pain. I'm v active relatively luckily. It is chemo damage resultant heart failure. Does anyone on here get eg monthly blood tests and is on a maintenance dose of Sando K/fizzy potassium? I'm sure the gp will support the blood test but my heart registrar said the potassium wasn't prescribed as a maintenance because of risk of high potassium. I'm so lucky and fiercly fighting on but gosh sometimes it's a hard gig. Sending love to those with hard gigs everywhere. X

Hi I’m on a lot of diuretics Bumetanide is one. I was given spironalactone, at the time I was told to keep my potassium level up. I do have yearly blood tests and I’ve never been told my potassium level is low or too high.

Years back I went into hospital for a procedure and I was told my potassium level was low, I was given a liquid to drink and I was told the procedure couldn’t go ahead unless it improved. The next day they checked and said it had improved.

I felt like rubbish, very weak and tired, when it was low, and my heart didn’t feel like it was beating properly.

I hope they can sort it out for you. I have heart failure also, and I’m on a cocktail of drugs. All the best.
