Diuretics and loss of electrolytes

I have had to temporarily increase my diuretics. I now find myself suffering from fatigue, nausea, itchy skin, tiredness and just feeling washed out.

I have read that these symptoms can be a caused by a lack of electrolytes.

Has anyone else experienced this? Did electrolyte drinks help?

Hiya,

Was made to drink magnesium and potassium several times a day when in hospital recovering from O.H.S. They are grim tasting. My advice wld to be get tablet form if available.

Wish you better.

I'm sorry I can't help with whether those symptoms are due to loss of electrolytes, perhaps give the BHF nurses a call and have a chat with them about it. But I wouldn't suggest you take electrolyte drinks without medical advice, too much potassium, zinc, magnesium, etc is as bad as too little. If you've had to increase your diuretic, did you not have blood tests a week or so after the increase to check your kidney function, potassium? I believe that's normal procedure.

I have tried 1 sachet of Dioralytie just to see if it made a difference. So far it has helped with the nausea. Time to talk to the Doc!

When I've had to use electrolytes I use a product called ORS, different flavours and works very well. I prefer it to Dioralite

You can alter the dosage too, one or two tabs depending on need

I suffer the same symptoms as you. I have just had a blood test and my electrolytes are perfectly balanced so l can't blame them.

Hello. Just reading about problems some people are having with electrolytes and hope you all soon get your answers. Could I just ask if anyone knows how long is too long for taking diarlyes. Had terrible stomach upset on satins for 6 weeks now and been taking these sachets 3/4 times a day for 6 weeks and wonder if this is normal.
