palpatations

Hi everyone. I had a tissue AVR 7 years ago. Apart from hypertension i dont really have any other problems .A few weeks ago ibooked to go to America in Sept with my brother to see our other brother and then felt worried about the huge undertaking. Ive started to get what i think are palpatations mainly in the morning but not exclusively. They dont usually last long and im not dizzy but i can get like an adrenalin feeling and i am scared to have to go to the dr as it will either adversely affect my insurance , or open a can of worms with me waiting in limbo for tests and prevent me from travelling and letting my brother down. My husband thinks its anxiety. I dont know what to do.

Palpitations are usually harmless and temporary. Sometimes however, they can last longer due to factors such as ongoing stress, diet, lack of sleep and exercise. I have phases where I go through palpitations and other arrhythmias which are considered benign as they are short lived. Perhaps try breathing techniques to see if that helps calm them down. I usually do vagal manoeuvres to get me out of an episode of really bad palpitations.

Exhausting these methods, it might be the safer option to see the GP if you find that they have not calmed down or lowered nearer the time of flying.

I hope you enjoy your trip away.

Good luck.
