GTN spray

I am awaiting an angiogram and have been prescribed GTN which I use as and when needed. I do however get palpitations and wonder if the spray would be helpful for that. Sadly I didn't see a GP when the GTN was prescribed, a nurse called me to say for my symptoms I should have it. Cardiologist wants angiogram to see what's going on.

Hello :-)

There are a lot of members that when they see your post will have some great advice

GTN spray usually is given for angina pain to ease it and so I am not sure if it will help with palpitations but as I said others might know more and be able to share with you :-) x

Hi Larn71

The GTN spray can actually cause your heart to race faster which is a temporary side effect of using it as it widens the blood vessels.

The rule with the GTN spray is that you spray 1-2 puffs under your tongue 5 mins apart for upto 15 mins. If the pain persists after 15 minutes, it is a call to 111 or 999.

You may benefit from speaking to a BHF cardiac nurse as well with any concerns and they can advise further on its use.

All the best.
