hi I had a PFO closure 18 months ago after having had a stroke 2 years ago . Echocardiogram bubble tests showed a few bubbles in September last but then another test this week showed a lot more…. Anyone had this? Consultant seemed surprised and not sure what next - he mention a TEE test to check closure device. Thanks for taking the time to read

Hi Digs14
I’m sorry to hear about your stroke and that the bubbles are back despite your PFO (patent foramen ovale) procedure.
I don’t have any advice to offer on this particular condition. Despite reading up on it, there seems to be no substantial information on bubbles coming back after the procedure has been performed. I have read however, sometimes the type of device used might have a role to play in how well the heart recovers after a PFO procedure, and/or the implications it leaves behind?
Just a thought. I wonder if they would consider repeating the PFO procedure again? Although, I don’t know if that’s an option.
I appreciate you are probably in quite a unique position with your condition at the moment. I hope others with some knowledge of this do come by.
Let us know how you get on.
All the best.

I had a hole in my closed some years ago with no problems. In your position I would consult
the surgeon who did the job. Mine was a' procedure' so entry into the groin and therefore a simple closure. If yours was open H. Surgery you will need good advice as to what to do now.
