Hello everyone

I'm having a PFO closure this coming Thursday. I'd like to hear from anyone who has had this procedure, and interested to hear how you would expect to feel afterwards and are there any post op symptons ie pain or discomfort? And what the recovery period is?

Many thanks to you all

Are you having a catheter closure or open heart?I had the former 10 years ago and it was a simple procedure. In hospital all one day and home same night.Very little discomfort and fit as a flea the next day...in fact quite bouncy. I was in my early 70's. BUT we at all different and if you have other health issues that may affect how you feel afterwards.I had sedation and top up morphine so no pain and lovely people to see me through it while docs worked. There were no special instructions about activity aside from 'go easy for a day or two'.

Thanks very much for your advice. Yes, it will be a catheter procedure. I have no other health issues, i had a heart attack last May, and it wasn't due to blocked arteries, so having had further tests the PFO was found to be the cause of this (HA caused by a blood clot). Thanks again, looking forward to getting it done tom. Trust after it's done and the 10 years since yours, it doesn't need doing again !. Bw Sian

I understood from my cardiac team that they only need to do one fix .I had a TIA before mine was done and an embolism so rather like yours although no heart attack.

That's good to know. So, all being well, I feel very reassured, thank you. Spent an hour on then phone for the pre-op, but forgot to ask about what comes afterwards !I'll let you know how I get on, thank you.

Hi. I haven't had mine closed, but am very interested to hear your experience of closure. My cardiologist says he won't repair mine unless I wish to go scuba diving - fat chance at my age! 🤣) PFO is associated with cryptogenic stroke which concerns me a little given my past history. I have just had an MRI of my brain for possible evidence of TIAs, and am due to see my neurologist soon. I hope all goes well for your closure.

Hi there, I'll certainly let you know how it goes. I'm 57 - but no scuba diving for me either !

My PFO has been closed. Procedure went well and recovering nicely There was a small amount of pain in the groin area, and a cut lip and gums where the camera was put down. Will wait to hear next month whether the 'hole has been closed completely.
