I think it depends on the trust, ours is based on a 8 week 1 hour one to one exercise sessions taken by NHS specialist staff at two local gyms, they will take your blood pressure at the start, monitor your O2 readings, and alter your exercise regime as you go on. During the 8 weeks you could use the gym anytime (and you got a free car park pass too).

In regards to diet they will speak to you and answer any questions as you go on.

At the end I asked if they would do a exercise plan for me, which they did, they also arranged for me to get a discount at the gym that ended up lasting for about 9 months.

I still go to the same gym now, and they still say hello, and if they are busy they still find the time to answer any questions on the odd occasion I have one.

To conclude it was brilliant and one of the best things I have done as it really did give me the will to carry on.

The rehab course I did was excellent. Twice weekly exercise, and a weekly talk with different experts. Plus advice on continuing.

the one i did was ran by the physios at the hospital and it was 16 sessions long i believe it was 2 hours each session and i saw a cardiac nurse once that referred me to the rehab program she gave us a printed booklet from the British heart foundation on healthy eating she ran through a few things like travel and if you had to pay for your prescriptions then get a pre payment card and all stuff like that but nothing after that. Spoke to the consultant once on the phone and he arranged a couple of tests an echocardiogram and a 24 hour blood pressure monitor and if all was well I’d get discharged. All was well and so i got discharged. I had the heart attack out of area and was given a book from the other health authority called the heart manual and a set of 2 cd’s one on relaxation and the other on a fictional character had a heart attack and how they got on after it. But my local health authority it is very poor in what they offer. If I’d lived in this other area in the country what they offered was far far better than my local area.

Mine was once a week for 1 hour for 6 weeks. After 2 sessions the nurse and physio said you obviously exercise at home and know what you are doing so it's not worth you coming anymore, and that was that.Didn't invite me to come to any other meetings, just get on with it.But I did have to do a final bleep test.My diet is lousy,I eat what I like, drink what I like but I train hard most days.x

Mine was 8 one hour sessions, one per week. I could have done with more as it was actually enjoyable... normally I absolutely hate working out in a gym! When I got home I demonstrated what we did and my wife nearly had a heart attack! 😯
