Bypass not referred

So ive been waiting to hear, since Feb from the consultants doing my bypass surgery. Decided today to chase it up, after a few hours I finally got through to be told that my referral hadnt been made 😬😬 urgent bypass i was told. Dont get me wrong i feel great after my lifestyle changes but come on NHS this is quite urgent. I basically got told that another referral would be made today.... will it ? Sorry for the doom and gloom folks but the life waiting to hear, as some of you know gets quite emotional. Starting to think that the universe is telling me not to have the surgery, things happen for a reason and all that ?

Hello :-)

Waiting for surgery is one of the worst things we have to try and deal with can be worse than having the surgery itself !

Now you know what has happened this time every few weeks I would keep getting in touch and asking for updates

I hope you get a date soon and please let us know when you do :-) x

I can understand your disappointment and frustration, the delay should never have happened. I'd advise following up in a day or 2 to ensure this has gone through, and look into being put on a cancellation list.

You're right when you say everything happens for a reason, but in this case the reason is that someone has dropped the ball. There's no hidden message.

Again, I can understand the fear of not wanting a major operation - no one wants to be in this club - but your medical team would not have suggested this if it wasn't absolutely necessary.

The name of the game is to chase, chase and chase some more! I chase everything every couple of weeks. Do not let them forget about you. Also get onto a cancellation list so when someone drops out, and they do, you can be called in to fill the slot.It works.

If a referral has not been been it is really bad and you have every right to make a complaint it should have been done on the day you told. As the others said you need to chase everything up yourself now Good luck

Hi I am in the same boat regarding referral. Should of been referred to Liverpool heart and chest hospital by my local hospital and they forgot ! I complained to PALS and got a reply 7 days later to say they forgot and doing it today. If I hadn't complained I would still be waiting.

It's all very stressful at a time when you're told not to stress.

Keep pushing them and I wish you well.

A friend went for an angiogram yesterday and was told by her cardiologist that at the moment they are only treating emergencies and she'd only got her appointment because her angina had suddenly got much worse.

Hi Stevie. Well I’m not such a believer in fate more a believer that although everyone is saying they are rushed off their feet you just can’t get the staff nowadays ! More or less the same thing happened to me 9 years ago. One hospital blaming the other for not sending referral in right format the other saying they just didn’t look at their paperwork. Who knows …. All I know is that when I chased it and got to see the consultant in London, he frantically chased round and got me on someone’s list as I was on my last legs and told I had possibly only weeks before a major attack.

I advocate being a pain in the butt and chasing and chasing it.

Not what you're looking for?
