While I have a heart condition, this is unrelated, as my hip was giving me gyp.
Emailed surgery (not urgent message) 2 pm. Saw doc. 4 pm. X-ray 1.30 pm next day, home less than 24 hours after first contact. Is this a record?

Hello
Well done !
It possibly could be a record you will have to contact the Guinness Book of Records and put it to them
I am really pleased you got so quickly seen x
That is really amazing, I do think the NHS is waking up again now, twice recently I've phoned the surgery and asked to 'speak' to a Dr or nurse about my husband and each time the surgery has sent someone out to see him within a couple of hrs! The first time was a cardiac specialist nurse & the 2nd time was the surgery paramedic. Not bad for a surgery that hasn't long came out of special measures.I hope the x-ray was ok, did they give you the results while you were there?
Thats quick, but, I can do better.
Rang GP at 8am, appt with Doctor at 9am for blood in my stools.
After a quick examination, he decided it was another hospital job.
He rang SDEC and asked if they would see instead of going through A&E, which they did.
Went home and got my hospital bag, and off to hospital, where I was duly admitted and with bed by mid-afternoon, where I remained for 6 days (March).
(I probably was cheating, as this was the 4th bleed of this type in 11months, so it was a bit like deja vu, here he is back again). Touchwood, I'm now 3months clear of bleeds.
North East NHS for you.
That's interesting about the SDEC. Our surgery contacted them at our local hospital just recently as they wanted my husband to go in but SDEC said he had to go through A&E. I don't know your history but I do hope the bleeds are nothing serious
What I've found with SDEC, if I hadn't been a "regular" with a history, I think I'd have had to go through A&E, but, as it was the expectation I would probably be needing blood they took me. As it happens, I had a transfusion that evening. As far as I'm aware its for patients who aren't expected to be admitted, so if there was a chance your husband would be kept in, that could be why he'd go through A&E.
The bleeds have been frustrating, but, three colonoscopies and two Endoscopies down the line, we're hopeful its under control. Diagnosed with Angiodysplasia in the Colon, which can be caused by Heart Disease, that was addressed, however, there may be potentialy similarly in the stomach wall. Unfortunately, my INR kept on spiking literally over a matter of days, so that could be part of the cause. Anyway 40 days in hospital and 8 units of blood later, I'm settled for now.😀
No, some places still work like that. I've been having breathing problems; rang GP around 11am, saw doc in person at 4.30pm, given an open appointment to go to local hospital any time that suited me for chest x ray. Went next day at lunch time. Place was deserted. I was in and out within 15 minutes.
I think that is really excellent, especially as GPs have been saying they are overworked since a certain illness arrived on the scene. Maybe people complaining about a lack of face to face consultations and questioning what they are doing has got through to them.
I well recall, back in 2010, receiving a call from the most senior partner in my GP practice asking me to see him. I asked when... he replied, "how about now!" In hindsight it was fairly important as tests had revealed that I had a kidney problem and the blood pressure medication I was on was not suitable.
Incidentally I think I may hold the record for the minimum time spent in A and E. In March I was walking in Scotland and was on a track passing kennels when the dogs came bounding out through an open gate. Most were friendly, but for some reason one attacked me and I got bitten on the leg. A trip to Perth Infirmary saw me registered, triaged, treated, jabbed (Tetanus) and back out the door in 25 minutes. I somehow doubt that would be the case where I live.
