Does anyone else suffer high BP early hours? I average around 120/73 during normal hours but recently upon waking its been roughly 146/82 , I think its starting to wake me up early too. Quick Background, I have CAD and currently take Bisoprolol 60mg, ISMN 60mg, Atorvastatin 80mg and Aspirin 75mg. Can timing of meds help with this ? Or is my anxiety getting the better of me again ? Thanks all

It's only slight above normal and I think no more than your body's reaction to waking. I no longer do it on waking as I doubt it is useful. My pulse was also up 5 - 10 bpm. I think it is all part of what diabetics call the Dawn Phenomenon where their BG rises after waking. I imagine it's all due to adrenalin giving you a lick start!
For jnfo ...- mayoclinic.org has an article about BP readings & says... Don't measure your blood pressure right after you wake up. You can prepare for the day, but don't eat breakfast or take medications before measuring your blood pressure. If you exercise after waking, take your blood pressure before exercising.
- Most other articles just say take reading first thing in the morning & again at night.
- One article said have no food or drink for 30mins before taking your BP in the morning., which seems to concur with the mayoclinic info.
I've never been told any of the above before regarding taking BP readings!
I can say from a long experience of having very high BP, that BP can fluctuate a lot over the course of 24 hours
May I suggest if you are prone to anxiety that you ask your GP what would be high / low enough BP readings for you to be concerned enough to need to contact them about it .... so that you then don't worry about any fluctuations in BP readings until a reading hits that "red flag level" they gave you & has remained at the same level for a second reading an hour or a few hours later.
❤️ Obviously of course if you are in any heart pain at all then contact the GP, 111 or A& E as needed please. ❤️
I have had to employ the 'red flag levels' myself due to anxeity .....
1) for my oxygen meter readings as my pulse rate is now low & I was getting very panicky about the woozyness I was feeling & how it affects my coentration levels .... below 95% I now know i need to get up & move & try to increase it if I can; 93 _ 91% i can be concerned & to take care as i get dizzy woozy & wobbly. If it stays that low then I need to see the GP.
And if it goes under 90% that I should get my ass off to A& E.
2) as I'm on 4 meds to reduce very high BP which was controlled, but the new heart med means diastolic (the lower BP figure) now occassionally jumps back higher than ever to above levels the GP was trying to reduce it to! GP said monitor it with a second reading & if it keeps happing regularly or stays up at those levels for any length of time to get back to them. [And also to keep a record for discussion with the Cardiolgy Consultant at my 2nd visit (in whatever King's reign that might be 😀 as still waiting on tests at present)]
Just the above little bit of knowlege helps to keep my mind at rest & helps me not to worry when I don't need to, & helps me to not make myself ill worrying which i'm very prone to do.]
I wish you all the best. Try not to let your anexity get to you (I know it's hard).
I would go with what everybody else has said. The problem I was always told is how do you feel in yourself. My Bisoprolol was increased from 1.25mg to 5mg after another stent fitted (I had 2 fitted in 2020) and it did make me feel drowsy almost a dizzy feeling but after about two months your body seems to get use to it. As far as anxiety goes I am still off work due to anxiety (10 months) but you may find checking it the way you are is raising your anxiety levels. Going through cardiac rehab at the moment and was going to buy one of the bands and watch to go with it but my nurse told me not to bother, he said it would rule my life, you know how you feel, if you feel bad you feel bad your heart rate may not increase. Also when I go to rehab the first thing they check is your blood pressure and to start it's been high even in the 140 to 160 mark (top level) but when I finish it's in the 120s mark even lower. I know that when I first arrive my anxiety levels are high but when I feel relaxed it lowers. I hope this helps. I found a lot of the checks i was doing blood pressure, heart rate etc was fuelling my anxiety, expecting the worse. Best of luck.😊
Thank you for your reply, Ive took a little step away from the regular checks now and am finding this helps. Im new to all this and think i was getting a bit carried away which in the long run isnt going to help. Im realising that the connection between mind and body is more complicated than i thought. Although im waiting for my bypass i have been doing the BHF cardio rehab programme and eating super healthy so fingers crossed that will help. Again thank you for your advice and help.
