Hi all, I’m 18 months post op to repair my aortic valve with open heart procedure, I’m still feeling the effects of extreme fatigue and feeling tired all the time and it’s starting to worry me, before my op I felt a lot better than I do now, can anyone please share their experiences of this ? Thanks all and I hope you are all getting better whatever stage your on your recovery- Alberto

Can't share any experience Alberto but just wanted to suggest you ring the Consultant's Secretary and ask for another appointment to talk over your concerns. I wish you all the best with your ongoing recovery.

Morning, I had surgery in February 2020. Suffered from fatigue but found that decreasing my Bisoprolol from 2.5mg to 1.25mg per day has helped a lot. Worth a chat with your GP or Cardiologist. I did it of my own volition but the Cardiologist ratified it later. Partially due to fatigue but also more importantly due to my low pulse rate through grade 1 heart block post operation. Happy to discuss further. Andy

Hi Alberto,

I agree with the others that this may be medication related. I would certainly request a review.

All the best and I hope you feel much better soon,

Gerald

Hi I’m 18 months post op too and I still get very tired, gets to about 7pm every night and I’m so tired I could cry, give myself a talking too most nights sometimes I push through and others I have a 10min Power Nap ( that’s what I call it)and it works, still in bed early every night and if ever I’m going out I try and have a rest in the afternoon.

I just keep pushing on, mention this to your doctor or cardiologist and ask if you can have a meds review

I wish you all the best Berto47 👍

Hi

It was my 1 year anniversary yesterday. I had a replacement aortic valve, root graft and then a pacemaker 10 days later.

I honestly thought that I'd feel like a new woman once my dodgy valve was replaced, but in all honesty I'm probably back to the level that I was about 12 months before surgery. Work wipes me out but I'm going to the gym on a weekend and Pilates classes on an evening, but again wiped out afterwards.

If you aren't already a member of our Aortic group have a think about joining, so much in common that usually somebody can reassure or advise you.

It's UK Aortic and Heart Defects Pre and Post surgery
