Pre-op Assessment

My pre-op assessment went well today and smoothly. No waiting between anaesthetist, doctor, nurse and CO2 nurse. We were there for 3.5 hours. The nurse even managed to take her 4 gallons of blood on the first attempt. They don't think the impending strike action will affect my date. They didn't even know it was due to happen! Talked to the anaesthetist about the cannula - she says they'll use a small one (intended for children) and will give me the pre-op med earlier so I am sedated. Apparently, I'll have 3, maybe 4, cannulas; 1 in my hand, 1 in my wrist, maybe 1 in my arm/elbow joint, and 1 in my neck. 3 will be taken out in ICU (wrist, arm & neck); the last one just before I'm discharged (hand). They've also said that instead of Penicillin they'll use Teicoplanin. |It's a semi-anti-B and I might still react to it but not as much as the others. I've agreed to the CO2 trial.

pleased to hear that your pre - op went so well. You made me laugh describing the 4 gallons of blood they took from you! Dr

During my last blood tests, the container that the blood is collected in had a big crack in in and as I am on clopidogrel blood thinners the blood leaked out everywhere leaving the practice nurse looking like Lady Macbeth on a good day ! I thought it was funny but the nurse was quite upset that they had been sent damaged equipment. All the very best for your forthcoming operation.
