Cardiac Rehab

Hey everyone

Still no news on discharge although I'm now at 92

I haven't heard from the cardiac rehab team yet so I'm just thinking ahead. But is there any point in going again? I did only finish going a few weeks ago.

All opinions welcome

Hello :-)

92 that is great keep doing the deep breathing :-)

I think when you first get home as it is different while in Hospital but you will feel it and need to keep up with that breathing most important

I am not sure if Rehab would push you as yet as you have some recovery to do from the pneumonia but if they did invite you back then I would go as it can only be a help which will this time help your heart and lungs so a double winner :-) x

It'll give them something to do. They'll be just as bored as you.You do what you gotta do. ...breathing wise and rehab.

You're doing great!!!

l would advise that you need to do exactly what the medics suggest. They obviously feel it’s necessary for you. You will be better quicker, and out of there quicker if you listen to their good advice. You are doing very well. Keep resting, and improving and you will get to eat your Easter egg at home. Best wishes.

Hi V, if it’s offered I would definitely go. From my experience they provide advice and can help you to understand what you should and shouldn’t be doing as it is still early days for you and you have had pneumonia. Take care xx

Hi Jude

I got all the advice last time, I was just thinking what would hearing it again do.

Naturally it’s your decision. If you don’t think you will get anything out of it I guess only you can decide. I found mine immeasurable in terms of monitoring my recovery and with their support it certainly helped build my confidence in what was for me a ‘new world’ to get used to x

Is this new rehab to do with your stents?

Valentina98 profile image
Valentina98 in reply toHeather1957

I had rehab after my first HA I'm assuming I'll be offered it again especially now I've had a stent

I think you probably will too, you need to see how your body reacts to exercise now you have had a stent.

I had a bypass in 2017 and was offered rehab and then again after my stents in 2021 but they were 4 years apart.

I understand that being a good gap between both but as I only finished a few weeks ago.

Every little helps. Not just with shopping. Any structured and monitored exercise programme is likely to do you good.

Morning V, here's hoping the oxygen level still on the rise this morning, bit confused by you saying you only finished a couple of weeks ago, did you finish the whole 8 week course then?

If so not sure if you can get another one, or with you being back in hospital you miss weeks or can start again. Ask the hospital for another referral, (they can only say no), at the very least you still be able to speak to someone on the phone.

Take care, mum's cooking awaits.

Morning

They haven't come round yet so fingers crossed.

Sorry I'll try and explain a bit better. After my first HA in October. I did cardic rehab and started in November time I finished the 8 week course in mid January but I did an extra top up course for 4 weeks. Which finished around mid February.

I haven't heard anything about another referral yet I was just thinking ahead.

I'm looking forward to Mum's cooking

Rehab is always worth it - and never forget the things you learn. HA Dec 2019 and triple bybass May 2021. After exercising at rehab I was given a 3 month free pass for the government owned gym. After that I took up the option of a further 3 months at half price. Rowing machines, tread mills, weights, leg press, all the usual stuff. After the 6 months, I let it lapse last autumn thinking that I'm generally fit, and I play badminton twice a week so I'll be fine. This week, I was tempted to rejoin the gym as I can get an over 60s discount. I've been for the first time this morning, and I'm so glad I've gone back. I couldn't believe the condition I've lost in my arms over the months away, and now I'm determined to get it back. It'll also improve my walking and badminton if I'm generally fitter.

The rehab is to get you to adopt a change of attitude and activity for your whole life. Definitely worth doing it and sticking to it afterwards.

Not what you're looking for?
