I've just had my 2nd Cardiac Rehab session, it went well again I ran for just over 5 minutes like last and and did a lot of walking exercises. My heart rate went up to 115bpm which the staff said that's okay to start with. I don't know if it's just me but I feel like this time it's working better for me. I feel like they are actually doing something this time help help me improve.

The most important thing you said was you feel like its helping you to improve. I hope it carries on x
Excellent news it will get some of that confidence back for you to go out on your own fitness journey once again.
To be honest with you I had to stop my Rehab as I felt I was taking up a position that someone else could get better use of.
My heart rate target was set so low that the simple exercises presented got me there really quickly, as much as I like to support others, watching 80+ year olds doing things that I had to sit out for just added to my depression.
So now I move move move, as best and as long as I can, while working at the computer I stand and do leg/glute and ankle flexes anything to help really.
But I cannot tell you how pleased I am for you and your progress
I understand that, I'm quite happy with my heart rate, it was 105 last week but I pushed them to up it this time. I'm sure I'll be getting them to change it to 150 in not time 😊 (Maybe on my last session)
Hurrah! More good news from you. Pleased you are achieving so much and getting so much confidence back. A different lady from a few weeks ago. Your determination is amazing. 👏
That's great news, V, you're doing really well! You sound really positive about it all too, it's lovely when you get that little glimmer of hope feeling. 👍😊
well done. I had OHS in January. I went for my cardio rehabilitation assessment this week, but due to a knee injury I did in March I’m on hold for now. But they did give me a few basic exercises I can do for now.
The one thing you mustn't do is compare yourself to others as your an individual with your own strengths and weaknesses.I often sit out and join in again I commend others and do my best but I don't give up We need others the social aspect, even though we may prefer to be on our own, is good for our mental well being and inner strength. Keep going as it sometimes takes months to fet a little stronger 🙂
Yes, I had to let go of my natural unhealthy competitive streak in cardiac rehab. I have done it 4 times now...sadly! But I think it's great to see that you can push yourself a bit and you won't drop dead. The main takeaway for me is to warm up and cool down slowly, whereas in "before" times I would just go full blast into any exercise...
I too did my 9 weeks at cardiac rehab now “promoted “to a vitality class run by nhs and local authority for people with a variety of health conditions like MS and arthritis at my local sports centre. It is a bit more challenging with more weights. It is worth checking out with your local authority to see if they offer something similar. Do seated classes too. Certainly helps getting your confidence back.
Sounds great. I've been doing my Phase4 for about a month now. Twice a week with one class and one independent (supervised) session. It's done my confidence and fitness no end of good. Much harder than the hospital based phase 3 but that was really important for me as the stepping stone from being scared and bewildered to starting to embrace my new normal. Keep going V.
Well done! Be kind to your heart to let it recover from your heart condition gently. Keep heart rate just high enough to start getting breathless during intense periods of interval training. Surprisingly you won’t need to do more in cardiac rehab to improve. Overdoing it will just set you back. Get the Active 10 app (it’s NHS) to ensure you do enough brisk walking in a week, much better that counting steps as most of them will be too slow.
Lovely to hear that you are making such positive progress! I remember my rehab course was excellent, walking in the local park, lots of advice on good diets and lifestyle, even swimming, so much encouragement to stretch the boundaries in a safe environment. Enjoy, and use this opportunity to expand in knowledge and confidence.
Very lucky, l had my triple bypass in Bristol 18 months ago, since then I had a 2 minute call from my consultant cut short due to him having a emergency call, nothing since even though I tried for months to get an appointment, so we'll done and good luck 👍
That's good to hear rehab is going well, it's always good to see improvements, even tiny ones. I know I was happy when I could finally walk at a normal walking pace again, instead of what felt like snails pace!
