hi. Just wondered if anyone else notices that when their heart is beating fast or having palpitations they also get wind in their chest. Like I feel palpitations etc but always seem to feel like that too. Beginning to wonder if it’s common. I’ve recently started bisoprolol for my heart rate issues.

wind / burp with heart rate issues
Hello
Slightly different and never thought if it was the meds I take but I get terrible indigestion and I always noticed when I am about to burp I get all different kinds of sensations in my chest and then I burp ( not very lady like I know )
I even mentioned it to my Surgeon , Consultant as well as Doctor all looked at me gone out to be honest when I did but my Surgeon said it was nothing to do with my heart and I did think what is it then and now you have got me thinking
Will be interesting to read the other replies you get x
I know ! Super lady like. 🤣. I’m not normally someone who ever burps much, but it always seems to happen same time as heart palpitations. So weird. Xx
I was not someone that used to either , I try and be discreet the best I can x
Hi, I get this a lot, the burping, not the heart palpitations. So much so I had a gastro review along with a CT, echo and endoscopy. They didn't find anything (apart from a clot in my left ventricle!) and say its nothing to do with my heart. It got better, but the last few days its coming back...I think its my meds, but ive stopped everything at some stage. It does my head in, as it makes me feel "off" for a while
With my HA it all started with a bit of pain in my forearm, whilst swimming, followed by extreme nausea in the changing room. When that subsided I burped for England.
I have it all the time. I went from 2 tablets a day to around 20, it is predominately just behind my sternum, when I lie down you can hear it burbling and gurgling away in my chest/throat, I take lansoprazole and nitzadine for it.
When it was really bad or I have gastric issues it would trigger ectopics that I would feel. My rehab nurse suspected that it twanged the Vegas Nerve think it is, which runs very close and can effect your heart, bp , as this indigestion is on the whole 70% better it has been 4 months nearly since an ectopic flare up for me, which would make me feel bad for 48hrs roughly.
End result is the area is sensitive constantly I cannot have anything rest upon my chest for more than a few seconds, ie my hand, not pain but I start feeling funny\sick. Also have a stop fitted on my seat belt just to give a bit of slack across my body.
So a long short answer, take care oh did find the gaviscon chewable a good short term quick fix, keep some in my pocket always when travelling. There are certain things I no longer eat and drink, anything carbonated is like swallowing broken glass, so I dont ha ha.
I’m convinced it is the meds. My husband does a large, loud involuntary burp although instead of air going in he says it’s air coming out like a hiccup. Only ever happened since his tablets. The doctor is not interested - said take Windeze but that did nothing.
I use bisoprolol, and was told it gives you wind, so its probably a build up your feeling, will tell you in leaflet inside pills box. Just a reaction to tablet.
My first post here but I have benefited a lot from many of the supportive, informative and kind posts of others. When I had my first episodes of PAF a couple of years ago it took me a while to realise what was going on as my irregular heartbeat was almost masked by the rumbling earthquake in my stomach causing me to burp with gusto. Is this something to do with the vagus nerve?
I’m now thinking that. As lots I read about it.
And this was happening before the medication. It’s interesting. Sounds like lots of other people feel it too though. Which is kind of reassuring.
the Vagus nerve or system not quite sure looks like a bit of a network, runs right through your body, gastric issues can cause inflammation like me while some is in the stomach a lot is my upper chest area.
Cardiac Nurse was explaining that there is a lot that can effect it, with me he was concerned also with constipation due to the medication, simply put straining can act on the nerve, which tied in with a couple of my episodes :).
I’m not in anyway shape or form offering a diagnosis, it’s only what happened to me and POSSIBLE explanations offered to me by my Cardiac Nurse, who simply put I think is a God.
Nizatidine is what is called an H2 blocker it’s like a Histamine H2 receptor antagonist simply put it is a complimentary medicine taken along side others as in my Lanzoprazole, for gastric issues, I take 15mg of each morning and night.
Esomeprazole only lasted on that 48hrs put me in a tail spin for 5 days, with ectopics and feeling really bad trying to convince myself that I wasn’t having another heart attack.
Sometimes you have to be persistent it took me 4 months to get to a state where it is all more bearable.
Another little note of caution, Dr Google can be bad, there is a lot of good information, but we can all be very bad at how we interpret that information. Self diagnosis is never recommended, it may give avenues to pursue.
If you are concerned push to to get a satisfactory answer.
If you look on YouTube at York Cardiology he has a video about the heart stomach and vagus nerve connection, that you may find of interest😊
hi yes I also get indigestion burps when I have heart palpitations, I have been diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation and when this occurs often end up with indigestion and burping.
I discussed with my cardiologist and he said that it could be to do with the heart rate as the asphofogus Is close behind the heart. So can cause an issue.
I get incredibly bloated and full of wind that seems stuck. Just the other day I was like this and bent over to take off my sock and before I know it my heart rate is racing and next thing am huffing and puffing.
I m convinced my issues are more to do with being overweight and possibly an undiagnosed hiatal hernia as every attack of breathlessness/rapid heart rate is linked to bad wind - but Drs don’t listen to me; interestingly my best cure is a pint of beer . The beer seems to relax and release deep seated wind and the relief is incredible when I am able to belch/burp ( politely)
