A 36 year old male, enjoys life in work and with family and friends until heart issues struck. Following chest pain, tightness and palpitations, ended up collapsing at work, and by professionals thought it was a heart attack. (This has stopped me from working enjoying time with my friends and family, any exercise, leaving me feeling tired and fatigued most days). Following investigations it's been called a cardiac episode. Following numerous investigations I have been diagnosed with ectopics with an average of 31 percent burden, been prescribed bisoprolol, no effect, have since been prescribed felicinide which has made me a little bit more functional, I'm able to get around the house and feel less pain but still have heavy chest, palpitations, and tired, but suffering from insomnia where the ectopics wake me up. I have an ablation booked in for February which cardiologist thinks will work for the ectopics. But I have since also been diagnosed with a dilated left atrium and borderline left ventricular systolic performance with an ef between 45 - 55 percent. Speaking to the electrocardiologist he thinks it may be linked to the burden caused by ectopics, but said will need another monitoring and ecg 3 months after ablation.
Has anyone else had ablation with 30 percent burden and it's been successful?
Has anyone else had ectopics that caused both the ventricular problem and dilated left atrium and having had the ablation this went back to normal?
Any advice or info would be gratefully appreciated.
Thanks

Given your age, I suspect that a successful ablation will enable your heart to remodel itself. If you become free of this heavy ectopic burden your sleep should return to normal. Hopefully you do not experience any further syncope. Good luck.
I suffered with ectopic beats and atrial fibrillation. I tried bisoprolol but it didn’t help the ectopic beats. I then had an ablation for atrial fibrillation, and it also stopped the ectopic beats! So it worked for me.
Thank you for your reply. There is a little Arrhythmia that runs through my family. My ablation is targeting the right ventricle rather than for atrial fibrillation, my cardiologist is very confident that it will get rid of ectopics. Just hoping the heart will be able to sort itself out, in particular the dilated left atrium.
I had AF from age 29. I had 3 ablations in 2022, the last of which did the trick.I've been AF free for 20 months, fir the first time in 20 years. Mostly those 20 years I was in persistent AF.
I was classed as being in heart failure and had EF of around 40 to 45%.
This is now up to 60% and so I'm no longer classed as being in heart failure, since AF has left the building. However long that lasts (and I'm constantly told it will return at some point) it means my heart has had a wonderful respite, with great results.
So, I'd definitely say this is possible.
My ablations were only given a 50% chance cos I'd been in AF so long and had enlarged atrium. I am very grateful to the EP for giving it a go and persisting with 3. He's open to going again, if required.
Thank you for your reply. I have a history of cardiology, in 2016 I was diagnosed with episodes of bigenimy and trigenmy but wasn't followed up or given medication and everything seemed to come to a head last year in November. The ablation that is planned is to target the right ventricle, my cardiologist has said that he thinks it will be 90 percent successful, this is brilliant to improve the quality of my life and get me back on track. I'm hoping that the other two issues will be sorted once the ectopics are removed. I, myself have not been diagnosed with AF.
Hi I’m actually awaiting an ablation in the next couple months for the same burden, which was spotted on a 24hr holter monitor. It’s preventing my heart from pumping and my device from fully working.
If I have mine done before you I will let you know. If you have yours done before me please let us know.
hi Rayson200 I had an ablation for a 20 per cent load a few months back. The doctors normally are not worried about ectopics other than at high loads which can cause damage. If the ectopics are coming from a particular area my understanding is that there is a good chance of the ablation fixing the issue but they don’t always work. The actual procedure was far less scary than I thought. I was awake throughout as they need to map the area of the heart where they are coming from before they zap it. There is a team of about 10 . They kept me in for monitoring the rest of the day and I was recovered within 3 days. Am not certain if mine worked . Initially the doctors thought it had but my Kardia was showing ectopics afterwards but the ectopics now seemed to have calmed down. I am completely asymptomatic. Best wishes for your ablation. There are a couple of little videos about ablations on the BHF website which weee helpful in explaining what happens plus some materials
I have not experienced any of these things, but just felt I had to reply to you!! Having anything wrong with your heart is worrying, but when you are younger I think you take it a wee bit harder. I am 66 and in 2021 had my first heart attack, followed by another two in 2022, and 2023!!! I had a double CABG in 2023. My condition is genetic on the female side of my family, and all the females have suffered some form of heart issue. I hope you get everything sorted out quickly, and are able to get on with living your life. A very different life, but a life nevertheless. Good luck
Ah OK, very different ablation then but one might assume that his procedure might also help EF % if the heart is not so burdened. I certainly hope so. It sounds like you've had a lot to deal with.
