just got my results from a chest X-ray, I had it done because of a very bad chest infection. Fast forward 3 weeks and I got my results chest and lungs are clear but it show show my heart is bigger than it should be. FRIGHTENED doesn’t cut it. Been told that they will do another X-ray in a year, but if I have symptoms like extreme breathlessness and palpitations to contact the gp and they will take it from there. How can they land this on my doorstep and think I’m ok with this. Don’t know what to do. Has anyone got any feedback for me. Sorry this is my first post and I don’t know which way to turn

Hello & Welcome :-)

Not sure though that any of us wanted to join here but here we are and lots of success stories as you read them with members leading a full and happy life :-)

Good news about your lungs but I agree then they can drop a bombshell and just send us on our way

They see this every day though so they know when something needs to be done straight away as well as knowing when things need to be monitored as they may never change but if they would explain more it really would help

I am sure other members have had the same diagnosis as you and will share their experience and hopefully that will reassure you as well as maybe trying to get a Doctors appointment so hopefully they will explain in more detail so you feel less concerned

Remember though if you were in any danger they would not have sent you away they would have kept you in there and they see these things everyday :-)

Whatever you do don't Google wait for replies on your post and talk with your GP as soon as you manage to get an appointment :-) x

It's quite common for some of our hearts to be a bit bigger than normal. What it can sometimes show is that your heart may have been working harder than it should. It could have been caused by your chest infection if that went on for a very long time, or you may just be one of the people that naturally have a slightly larger heart than usual. Or indeed heart palpitations, especially if you are not aware of them. The heart can easily reduce in size, once all the causes are removed. Keep a look out for your heart beating oddly, or your getting breathless. If you become aware of either of those happening see your GP.

So all in all, nothing to worry about right now.

First thing you can do is try not to worry about it. You really haven't got anything to worry about at this point. Its not needing any attention just yet and in a years time you might find out that your heart has gone down to a normal size and you get the all clear. Infections can cause the heart to be enlarged and inflammed.Just carry on as normal, note any symptoms if they arise and still try to make steps towards living a healthy, active life to prevent disease.

I had a similar experience a few years ago. Following a bad chest infection I had an enlarged heart. When I had a repeat scan a few months later, it was back to normal.

It is probably worth trying to have a chat with your GP, who will know more about your case.
