Hi, I’m looking for a bit of advice as I’ve recently developed some new symptoms. I’m 24 and I have cardiomyopathy (as well as a neuromuscular condition) I have been on 50mg of atenolol once a day for 8 years and typically have no issues. I last saw my cardiologist 12 months ago who was so happy with my test results he said don’t come back for a year! However, the last 5 days I’ve had some chest flutters that are on and off throughout the day, occasionally feeling a bit warm, fatigue, and just generally a bit tired. I had bloods taken and they were all fine, I can’t think of anything that’s changed other than I opened a new bottle of atenolol 5 days ago and wondered whether it was an iffy batch? I opened a fresh bottle today but still feeling a bit fluttery. I start my new job tomorrow and I’m concerned about showing up there and being unwell. I don’t have chest pains but I just would like a bit of advice whether this sounds concerning and I should maybe push my start date back and use this week to get to the gp etc or whether it could be something and nothing x

Cardiomyopathy- looking for some advice.
It is possible that your recent change in circumstances is down to feeling apprehensive about starting your new job, and when you have got that out of the way you will feel more relaxed. My advice is to start your new job as planned and see how it goes. It will not set a good impression if you don't turn up on your first day unless you are really under the weather, and if you are on any form of trial period that may mark you down. In short attend your first day if at all possible.
But as far as your cardiologist is concerned it sound like you are due a review so I would chase that up.
In the meantime you could set up a GP visit to discuss how you are getting on. Hopefully you will be back to 'normal' after the first few days of your new job and you won't need to follow this through.
Finally all the best in your new job
Thank you for your reply!
I have been under a bit of stress lately, I’m moving house and starting a new job. I think subconsciously I have been apprehensive about all the change which could be contributing to these uncomfortable symptoms!
I will chase up the appointment with my cardiologist and see how I get on once I’ve got my first few days of work out the way! Hopefully, it will all settle down and is just due to circumstances and a bit of anxiety!
Thank you
you are literally completing 2 life tasks which are listed some of the most stressful in life: new job / moving home.
It is only natural that you’ve been feeling some fluttering, healthy people so too! Try to relax, make time for yourself and if it Carries on maybe it is time to get in touch with your cardiac team and ask for earlier review?
All the best!
One area I've had a problem with is the pharmacy changing to a different generic. I found that all generics are definitely not the same.
