Nexium Control

I wanted to find something to try and ease my acid reflux and indigestion. (Worries the hell out of me since the HA). I went to the pharmacy which dispenses my prescriptions to ask which over the counter medication would be best and was advised to try Omeprazole or Nexium Control (Esomeprazole).

I opted for the latter and purchased a pack of 7 tablets just to try to see if they help and my wife started to look at the possible side effects of this medication and found some very worrying answers, but more worrying is the interactions with other drugs including Clopidogrel which is one of the drugs that I am taking for my ticker. This is classed as a major interaction which could reduce the effectiveness of Clopidogrel and could put me at a greater risk of heart attack or stroke.

Has anybody else taken Nexium Control and Clopidogrel together and suffered any or no adverse effects?

My pharmacist is normally very switched on and I would be surprised if he forgot what meds he normally dispenses to me.

Hello :-)

Phone your pharmacist and tell them your concerns now you have read the leaflet and ask are they sure you can take them

If you could get a call with your Doctor they could prescribe one that is prescription only

I get indigestion more now since my heart attacks and Bypass op I often wonder if it could be the other meds I have to take causing it

I take Lanzoporol which is prescribed by my Doctor not sure how much it helps though

I hope you manage to get to speak with someone let us know how you get on :-) x

Hello BeKind 28. I hope that you are keeping well and enjoyed your Christmas and New year. Thank you for replying

I did try to get an appointment with my doctor for 4 days concerning the acid reflux/indigestion issue but it is impossible tbh, so I finally gave up and decided to self medicate.

I will take your advice and phone my pharmacist about my concerns.

Many thanks.

Hello :-)

I am sorry you could not speak to your Doctor it can be difficult

You could pre book an appointment still talk to the pharmacist today but then if things do not settle which hopefully they should you will have an appointment in however long you have to wait

I hope you get this sorted today as I suffer with it a lot and I know how it affects you

Good luck :-) x

I was fortunate in that my GP rang me a couple of weeks after my discharge from hospital to discuss my discharge notes. I mentioned my stomach issues and she prescribed lanzaprozol for me. Indigestion, like with you, is a worry for me too as it and severe nausea were the major symptoms during my HA. I had very little pain as such.

Hello :-)

I am sorry you are suffering to it does make you wonder if we have not suffered before if it is the other meds that cause it we take

I have tried every PPI I think none really are 100% for me and always seem to come back to lanzaprozol

I hope they work for you :-) x

I suppose it's not surprising many of us have problems when we suddenly have to take a cocktail of new meds. Following suggestions on here I've started to keep a daily journal, I've got a list of things to discuss with the cardiologist next week. I may need a few tweaks yet to get the medication right.

Hello :-)

I agree :-)

Was talking to a Rehab Nurse yesterday and she said with these meds it can take a while to get the right combination and strengths to suite each individual

I thought you are telling me I have been at it a couple of years now :-)

Good idea keeping a journal and good luck with your appointment next week I hope it all goes well :-) x

Hello HrtyThanks for the reply. I worry about every little pain and twinge so if I can eliminate some of these pains then it might be easier to manage others.

Will have to speak to my pharmacist again.

I think I'm finally starting to calm down a bit with regard to every twinge.I did have a chat with one of the rehab nurses the other dayand she suggested gaviscon as well if queasiness/indigestion gets a bit much. Mind you she did also say that I know my body better than anyone and if I feel unwell and symptoms persist I need to get checked out. This is due to the most significant symptoms I had was awful nausea and indigestion.

I was changed from omeprazole to Pantoprazole by my cardiologist after my stent only because I asked him to change it. His view was that it was highly unlikely that the omeprazole would interact with Clopidegrel to such a degree that it would significantly reduce their potency. I am now off the Clopidegrel and back on omeprazole when needed. Your pharmacist will advise.

Hello wischo.I will speak to my pharmacist about this for sure as it is described as a major interaction. Best to be on the safe side.

Thank you

I was taking clopidogrel and was prescribed lansaprazole, apparently you are not supposed to take omeprazole with that medication? I am sure that was what I was told, my wife takes omeprazole for acid reflux and she no longer loses her voice or has the sore throats since taking them, she is not on heart medication though, just BP tablets. Regarding clopidogrel, I will need to speak to my doctor about them have talked to the surgery pharmacist and stopped the lansaprazole as I have been getting very bad diarrhea about 30 minutes after eating and throughout the day. I did wait 30 minutes before eating after taking one. I had still been getting the diarrhea and on reading the side effects of the clopidogrel, suspect it is them and I stopped them at Christmas. I have not had the upset stomach since stopping them so will need to see if there is an alternate medication I could take instead.

I have the same problem with lanzoperole, my GP has changed it to pantzoperole and I have had no tummy problems since

If you are suffering from frequent acid reflux you should discuss this with your GP who will be able to prescribe a prazole medication at the correct dose to control the problem. Over the counter meds are only really suitable for the occasional bout of 'indigestion'. Long term reflux where stomach acid washes the oesophagus wall over a long period of time should be treated seriously since it can cause complications which can ultimately lead to cell change. Finally you may find you have certain trigger food and drinks which cause you to struggle, so a food diary may help you identify and avoid them.
