Morning breathlessness

I had a mild heart attack in September and am taking the usual concoction of drugs but am concerned that I am still suffering from breathlessness in the morning. It gradually improves during the day. Is this normal?

Hello :-)

It could be a medication that is causing this maybe one you take at night ?

As it improves during the day I would see that as a good sign but of course I am not a Doctor but I would make an appointment to talk with them about this

Let us know how you get on :-)

Happy Christmas 🎄:-) x

I take Lozartan around seven o’clock and Atorvastatin at ten o’clock. The statin does cause muscular pain which sometimes keeps me awake.

Thank you for replying especially on Christmas Day. I hope that you’re enjoying your day.

Hello and welcome to the forum!

There are numerous causes of morning breathless including sleep apnea, anxiety, acid reflux and heart failure to name a few. As Hidden suggests you need to speak to your GP. In the interim if things worsen ring 111 or if they become severe 999!

I’ve replied but it’s disappeared so I’ll try again.

I do indeed suffer from gall stones and as a result, I was diagnosed a month ago when I went to A & E fearing that I was having another heart attack.

Thank you so much for your help.

I am a similar age and had a similar experience. My cardiologist stopped the ticaglor and replaced it with clopidogrel and the breathlessness cleared in a very few days. Hope this will help you and good luck.

Thank you for your reply but I’m already on Clopidogrel.

On another matter, I woke up in the middle of the night sweating. I used to do it before I had my heart attack but haven’t had it since then, until last night. I am a bit anxious at the moment.

As has been suggested, please see your Gp as soon as possible, it may be nothing to worry about, but they can tweak medications for you, all we can do is provide advice and hopefully give you our support on here, let us know how you get on.

Dave.

ve you tried sleeping with your head and shoulders a little higher? it helps reduce pressure from the abdominal organs on the heart and lungs and allows better ventilation of the lungs

I have two pillows, one thick and one thin. I’ll try with two thick pillows tonight. Thank you for your help.

it's more about your position that having thick pillows really - see if you can sleep in a sort of semi-sitting position by having the pillows almost at right angles to each other
