Breathlessness after stenting

Hi all, I just had my stenting done 3 and a half months ago and a stress test done a month ago that was fine. However, recently I am always breathless when speaking. Is this normal post stenting or should I be concerned ? I will visit my GP next week, but till then would be deeply grateful for any insight ! Many thanks !

I'm not sure whether this is normal or not? I had a stent done roughly the same time as you and I was very very aware of my chest area for some time. I was told this is perfectly normal. I sometimes felt I was a wee bit out of breath when talking but again I was told that it's early days yet and the heart is still settling down. I hope you get some answers from your gpor cardio rehab team. Good luck.

Thank you so much for your kind reply ! Unbelievable - it's exactly the same for me - a very very mild dull ache where they stented me and breathlessness when I speak....hope the sensitive heart adjusts soon !

I hope you eventually got over that — Im curious as I just had 2 stents put in on May 11th, 2023 and feel out of breath when I walk w/walker. If you’re still following this thread, I’d love to know if you eventually got over that.

Hi Redheart ! I do wish you a very speedy recovery from your procedure. Actually, after a long period of time and several tests later, the cardiologist found out that the breathlessness was being caused by Bisoprolol. They performed an extensive stress test using cannulas etc once after taking Bisoprolol and the other without. My heart was beating in a far healthier manner without the Bisoprolol and they stopped it for me immediately. I'm pleased to say my breathlessness has completely gone after going off the medication.

Please do allow a little time to elapse after the stenting. It took me a good few months - at least - before I got used to the stents, being put on a cocktail of drugs and an initial sense of fear. Two years on, I feel fine. I think it's the mental state that requires most adjustments ie getting used to the fact that one is now a cardiovascular patient, has stents and has to adopt a new healthier lifestyle. Once you get your mins around that, life becomes a lot better. Keep to a healthy diet, exercise and religiously have your Medications and you should have many many years of a happy fulfilling life.

Please do discuss your medications with your GP. Allow your body to adjust to them for a while (give it 2-3 months) and if you are still breathless, then please do contact your GP/Cardiologist. I wish you very good health !

Hi there , my heart attack was on the 15th April so roughly around the same time as yourself ,also two stents . I was constantly breathless, couldn’t walk up the stairs or walk a longer distance, the cardiologist put me on spironolacpone two weeks ago and I felt better within days . I still get the odd pain here and there and the usual things we feel but the breathlessness has gone.

Hubby Got breathlessness and indigestion but it was mainly when moving (not speaking), 3.5 months after his second massive ha. Dr gave him indigestion tablets and said he would write to cardiologist but heard nothing so in April I contacted cardiologist . Told the Only way at this time to get quick angiogram was to pay private they found another blockage same artery we had to pay for stent and angiogram but thank goodness we chased it up !! If you are worried ring cardio team - Take Care

hi bathead, i had the same experience after H.A and stenting over a year ago, I realized that the cocktail of meds I was prescribed afterwards had some side effects causing me to be breathless,I was taken off bisopoprol and felt fine, sometimes slight breathlessness but think most of these issues are caused by side effects, but always best to get checked out,put your mind at ease ,best of luck to you !!!

Many thanks for your kind advise ! The medication could be the culprit here !

Could be the meds. I had a couple changed because of breathlessness and now use inhalers. My GP told me that Atorvastatin and Bisoprolol are notorious for this. And don’t forget the Ramipril cough. I had HA and stent February 2019.

That's so useful. I've started taking Atorvastatin only after the stenting.....it could be the reason for my breathlessness....have to see the GP soon ! Thanks Maisie !

Ah, that Atorvastatin is actually also called Lipitor which is what I’m taking, but still have that “out of breath” feeling (my stent (2) surgery was just done on 5/11/2023.

Sorry to hear about breathlessness I had stent last year and suffered with breathless which landed me in hospital twice I did mention my sensitiveness to staff re medsReduced bisopriol twice and after discussion came off it completely making a hugh difference to me no more breathlessness

Everyone is different tho but best to discuss this with medical team but sometimes we listen to our own body

All the best for the future 👍

Hello staffbull. I am so sorry for the super late reply. I actually just saw your post now. My sincerest apologies. You were actually spot on. The Cardiologist put me off Bisoprolol and the breathlessness has all but gone now. Phew ! Thanks for your amazing diagnosis.......I think I have a new consultant now !! Good health my friend !
