I have been on 40mg of Atorvastatin and 500mg + 700mg Ranexa for several years and as far I can tell there have not been any problems.

What you have read and the experiences of people on here concerning any adverse interaction between any medication you are taking or about to take may not be the best advice for you. So I suggest that if you still have any concerns you return to the pharmacy or better the hospital for a professional opinion.

In the last month, my consultant has changed my statin from Rosuvastatin to Atorvastatin and doubled the dose to 80mg, I also take Ranexa and I have been experiencing severe muscle pain in my shoulders and lower back and have been seeing an osteopath for it who is confused as to the cause which makes me concerned that it is something to do with the combination of these two drugs, so I am trying to get an appointment with my doctor to discuss.

I would suggest that you monitor your situation closely and if you experience increases muscle pain, you speak to your doctor.

There are well documented muscle pain side effects from taking statins which can affect a minority who are prescribed this medication. It is possible that you could be one in that minority group, especially since your dose has been increased and you have changed statin, given some statins are apparently better than others with regard to side effects. So your GP may be better placed to sort you out rather than your osteopath.

I suggest you go back to your GP and discuss this. I had quite bad shouklder pains with Simvastatin which disappeared when I switched to Atorvastatin, and know people who did vice-versa. Why were changed from Rosuvastatin? Side effects or cost?

More likely the Atorvastatin is the culprit IMHO. Maybe give it a bit more time for your body to get use to it. Check with your GP for alternatives. Maybe ask for a CK level blood test to see if its raised, I believe they should do an mot of bloods after completing a medication change just to ensure everything is good.

Bearing in mind I am not medically qualified I am unaware that Ranolazine interacgts with any type of statin. There can be issues with other drugs for angina and chest pain such as Diltiazem, and also with some tri-cyclic antidepressants. Where did you read about this. I suspect no the PIL (Patient Information Leaflet) but probably Dr Google who is best avoided!

Been on both for a couple of montths. I take Rano twice a day through the dat, and Atorvsstation at night, which reduces and chance of them impacting each othet, but no issues whatsover. As others suggest. See GP not Dr Google, which will tell you anything is bad for you if you look long enough.

My initial thoughts are, you have just had your bypass and the hospital has prescribed these meds.So give your cardiac nurse a call or call the cardiac unit and ask them. Having taken the time to crack you and have a bit of a fiddle around it's unlikely that they are going to give you something that might get you back on the ward.

But the is a fairly standard "recipe" regarding the selection of sweetie's they give us after a ohs, you will have been given what they consider the best for you, so ask the people who made the selection why they did it.

It's always a good idea to ask the organ grinder,we are in this scenario the "monkeys".

I wish you well with your recovery 👍

If you have not already done so, read the information sheets that come with both sets of drugs and pay attention to the side effects. Remember, all the side effects listed are Possible side effects and you may not experience any of them. Any side effects you experience may be temporary and may pass in a few days or weeks. If you do experience side effects speak to a Pharmacist, ideally one who specialises in Cardio medicine, then if you can, a Cardiologist and failing that your GP. Remember, for every one horror story you hear, there are likely to be many with no problems whatsoever. Forums like this are great for shared experiences and to show, you are not alone; but always seek professional medical advice!

I wish you all the best at these worrying times.
