Mixing meds
I don't know about Rennie's but I take Omeprazole as well as Dapagliflozin, Entresto and half a dozen other drugs. I haven't noticed any side effects.
Talk to a pharmacist who will give you a professional answer to your query. And if you regularly need to take antacid tablets like Rennies it is likely that if you are taking Omeprazole as well it is not doing what it is intended to do. As for PPIs they are often taken with heart related medication to 'settle the stomach' due to some heart meds causing gastro problems, although Omeprazole and Esomeprazole are sometimes not used because they interact with some heart medication such as Clopidogrel.
I take Omeprozole and peptac liquid both prescribed by my heart specialist
The simple answer is NEVER mix prescription medications with ANY over the counter medications without first speaking to the pharmacist. And i mean the actual pharmacist not the ditzy 17 year old Saturday girl or her nosey coworker who has an opinion on everything and a qualification in nothing. They have spend a minimum of 5 years studying medications and the reactions of one on another. If anybody will know, they will. Second simple rule is read the instruction leaflet which comes with all prescription medications.
If you have read the leaflet AND asked the pharmacist and you get the green light then and only then proceed but with EXTREME caution. You could be the odd person who has the worst form of adverse reaction.
Had previously been on omeprazol. But after my HA I was put on lanzoprazol instead, because of potential reaction with one or more of my 8 heart drugs. Agree with previous comment - if on omeprazol/lanzoprazol there should be no need for Rennies.
You shouldn't take over the counter acid suppressants with Omeprozole/Lansoprozole. It will stop them working effectively. You should be fine with all your heart meds but just check with the pharmacist first.
I take esomeprazole and take Gaviscon if needed. I'm also on other drugs for heart and neuropathy.
Googling the names of the two drugs led to this: "The metabolism of Amitriptyline can be decreased when combined with Omeprazole." And there will be other websites giving perhaps varying advice. When my heart surgeon prescribed Clopidogrel blood thinners, I was horrified when my GP wanted me to take Omeprazole; every website I've visited warns, or is cautious, about this combination. In my case Lansoprazole seems to be a preferred alternative, but my surgeon said it wasn't necessary. But ever since my TAVI in mid-August I've had stomach issues and a couple of weeks ago I opted to take it, with a subsequent improvement.
