Hi, I'm worried about my 25 yr old daughter. During pregnancy 2.5 Yr ago she had high bp and was given labetalol. Bp settled down eventually. But recently she's had readings of up to 190/110
Went to gp after 24 hr monitor. He told her he's not seen the average that high in someone who doesn't appear to have heart problems. He said he'd refer her to cardiology but it could take a while.
He said he didn't want to put her on meds as he wanted to know the cause first ...but then told her to watch out for stroke symptoms!!!
Naturally she's very scared and has been taking her leftover labetalol from when she was pregnant if her bp goes high but gp doesn't know this. If she didn't take any and continued to have readings of over 170/ 100 what cardiac/ stroke risks are there and in what time frame?
She will be running out of the tablets soon

I think that your Dr is right to hold back on medication until he/she finds out exactly what is causing the hight blood pressure of your dear daughter .
There could be many reasons for the high BP which you already know and it is certainly common during pregnancy when she first had it.
I am not medically trained but it was wrong of the Dr to say that he hasn't seen this BP in anyone other than with a heart problem as regardless of age high BP can be for a number of reasons, no wonder you are worried.
Having re-read your posts on the other forums that you have posted, it seems that you are a worrier and suffer from anxiety , hearing this must make you worse.
You don't mention your daunters weight or fitness and I am sure that at 25 she would have been pushed through the system if the Dr thought that the results of the monitor told him to do so.
No mention of a ECG being done? strange as most surgeries have access to them, simple test that shows so much more.
As for taking a drug that was issued two years ago while she was pregnant is a bad foolish move, and you should report NOW to her Dr that she is taking this.
I understand your worry, but this could be more dangerous than leaving the body to cope with its higher than normal BP itself .
If the worst is the worst get her down to A&E for she must be suffering some symptoms for you to have to have checked her BP in the first place again.
I wish your daughter well and that you both get the answers to your questions.
Hi, I don't think I'm a worrier although yeah I have had anxiety before. Daughter had an egc a few months ago as she was having pains in her chest and it showed nothing out of the ordinary.
Tbh I was concerned about how long before she got an apt with cardiology as it could be several months away and the longer she has very high bp the more chance of damage , especially as gp told her to keep an eye out for stroke symptoms.
I've been checking her bp every now and then since after her pregnancy as I nearly lost her and her baby. It was through me checking that made her go to gp in the first place recently. She's also deficient in b12 and folic acid so hasn't been feeling great anyway as well as a break up.
Now we have a fuller story to your concerns over your daughter there can be no-one here that will not understand you both having such concerns.
What a horrible time you have both had and I agree with you that answers need to be got and fast.
The lack of B12 and folic points to anaemia which can be damaging to the heart and again is common after a pregnancy but should have been rectified by now.
I would phone 111 and explain the symptoms or go to A&E as there could be a massive delay in you seeing a Cardiologist { mine was 6 - 8 weeks }
Chase the Dr again and explain your concerns { rightly so }
Take care
